Joint Statement from CRPD Committee and UN Special Envoy on Disability and Accessibility on Persons with Disabilities and #COVID19Pandemic https://www.ohchr.org/Documents/HRBodies/CRPD/Joint_Statement_Persons_with_Disabilities_COVID19.docx
A reminder that Article 11 CRPD requires states to 'take all possible measures to ensure the protection and safety of persons with disabilities in the national response to situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies'
Calls states to 'accelerate measures of deinstitutionalization of persons with disabilities from all types of institutions' because of heightened risk of infection in congregate settings.
"During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, State should prevent discriminatory denial of health care or life-saving services, food or fluids on the basis of disability."
"States must ensure that persons with disabilities, through their representative organizations, are closely consulted with and actively involved in the planning, implementation and monitoring of COVID-19 prevention and containment measures."
"States should safeguard the provision of food, medicine, and other supplies for persons with disabilities during situations of isolation and quarantine" and all services related to #Covid19 crisis should be accessible to all
Calls upon states to prioritise those affected by poverty in crisis management.
