Our third free coronavirus webinar, “Coronavirus Conversations: Club Operations Part 2,” is about to begin. Follow this thread for updates. A recording of the webinar will be posted for those who are not able to attend live. https://bit.ly/2xGaoaH
“We’re all in this together, both clubs and suppliers alike,” said IHRSA President & CEO Joe Moore. Moore discussed resources IHRSA has made available for free, including our full webinar library ( http://ihrsa.org/webinars ) and a new Forum ( http://forum.ihrsa.org ).
Since we last heard from Pure Fitness CEO Colin Grant on the 1st coronavirus webinar, Pure had to close 21 locations in Hong Kong due to a confirmed case of a member who had visited their clubs.
Grant suggests contracting a cleaning company that can disinfect your club if you have a confirmed case upon reopening. Pure’s cleaning company uses a fogging method, which Grant says is effective and efficient. Be sure to take photos and videos of cleaning to show members.
Livestreaming classes is an important part of a pre-opening plan. Pure splits schedules between the company’s official social pages and their instructors’ social media. “Combined, instead of having 8-10 classes we had almost 50 classes a day.” - Colin Grant, CEO, Pure Fitness
“We have to do as much as we can to protect our team. 90% of our staff are customer-facing -- they’re the secret to our success. Have to make sure they’re paid fairly even when we’re closed and have no revenue.” - Colin Grant, CEO, Pure Fitness
Grant recommends reviewing your lease as there may be clauses that state in a situation like this, the lease can be frozen. He also suggests making sure the air conditioning units are shut down. “That’s an extra bill you don’t want to be paying,” he said.
At Pure clubs that are open in April, members are invited to come in before deciding whether to suspend. “It’s all about building trust & giving people the opportunity to come in & see how they feel, rather than make a decision from home.” - Colin Grant, CEO, Pure Fitness
“If this virus is going to be with us for years, we have to take into account [incorporating] social distancing, temperature checks, elevated hygiene measures. If you have significant restrictions, what is the financial model? What are the membership fees?” - Colin Grant
“You’ve got to nimble, you’ve got to be flexible because things are constantly changing. We’ll get out of this and we'll come out of this stronger.” - Colin Grant, CEO, Pure Fitness
