I'm at #ProjectEveryone - here's my thread.

How to pivot your strategy in a crisis @WayneTheMurray

1. There is no business as usual. It's all changed.
2. Work out what has changed.
3. Drop everything non essential

(Wayne's cat just popped in to say hello, which was cute.)
4. Keep lines of communication open.
5. Devolve decision making. Think less about hierarchy, more about efficiencies.
6. Redeploy staff to where the need is greatest. People have unexpected skills.

@WayneTheMurray
#ProjectEveryone
Yes!

7. Focus on the short term. Email and social. People want to be connected. Not just emergency appeals. Nobody cares about your income deficit. They care about the impact on your beneficiaries. People really do want to help.

@WayneTheMurray
#ProjectEveryone
8. In the med term think about offline, eg phone. Think about compassion & shared humanity. Give people options in the ways they can help. What are the things you wanted to think about & change?
9. Long term. Structure. Comms. The way we work will have changed.

@WayneTheMurray
10. We are all experiencing a first. Connect, be flexible, look after each other. Use time when you're strong to support others who aren't. When you're struggling, reach out.

11. Humans are inherently good. Philanthropy will bounce back.

From the conversation afterwards:
Ditch your 2020 strategy and focus on scenario planning.

Up next is @JasAdamsUK on adapting your messages for Covid.
Don't send out conflicting messages. No such thing as donor fatigue only message fatigue. Change your strategy but not your vision.

#ProjectEveryone
This is helpful from @JasAdamsUK

Talk about human stories, not numbers on a spreadsheet.

#ProjectEveryone
1. No clickbait. Clear ask up top.
2. Focus on time bound action. Make your ask honest and actionable.
#ProjectEveryone
Some good practical ideas here from @JasAdamsUK at #ProjectEveryone.
Engage with your audience!
Communicate to donors in a way they can relate to. Help donors name the link between their experience and your constituents' experience.

@JasAdamsUK #ProjectEveryone
Next up at #ProjectEveryone is @summitfundraise on engaging high net worth individuals in your fundraising response to Covid-19.
It's so tough. We're adjusting to change that we didn't think was conceivable.

Be kind to yourself. If you are feeling demotivated, you are not alone and that is ok.

@summitfundraise #ProjectEveryone
There are no rules to fundraising in a pandemic.

But there are opportunities that we can make the most of.

Now's the time to be building relationships with high net worth individuals.

Your org need funds. Human connection is vital. Our supporters care.

#ProjectEveryone
1. Call to show you care. Pick up the phone. How might this crisis be affecting them?

2. Create and offer different ways to engage. We can fill the gap created by social distancing.

3. Show them the spirit and provide the hope they need.

@summitfundraise
#ProjectEveryone
4. Ask, because people do care and they do want to help.

And here are suggested next steps.

Excellent session by @summitfundraise.

#ProjectEveryone
Now listening to @MRCampaigns - our donors are hungry for human contact.

Hearty example of a "stark ad".

Take over large swathes of website to talk about response.

#ProjectEveryone
Helpful overall guidance and good examples from @MRCampaigns at #ProjectEveryone. Thank you.
Now listening to @LizNgonzi at #ProjectEveryone on digital storytelling, social media engagement and virtual events.

We learn through stories. Storytelling expresses what makes us unique and worthy of support. Enables listener to identify with it. Provides a case for a reaction.
These are the challenges we face with online storytelling. We need to show relevance, authenticity, clarity and relevance.
@LizNgonzi #ProjectEveryone
Engage through Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, LinkedIn. Great examples of best practices in each from @LizNgonzi and a great chat with @CharityNikki.

Next up is @zoeamar on becoming digital focused. Zoe only lives round the corner from me but she could just as easily be on the other side of the world right now! Global and local worlds colliding.
#ProjectEveryone
Zoe's aims
1. Give yourself time to refocus. How can digital help?
2. Bring opportunities and ideas.

Now an ice breaker! Where can your nonprofit be in six months time? How can we use digital to make a difference?

@zoeamar
#ProjectEveryone
3 things to get right, even if road ahead is challenging:

1. Leadership - no need to be macho without a chink in armour, duty to openly share fears.
2. Remote working
3. Opportunities

Supporters and donor behaviour is already beginning to change.

@zoeamar
#ProjectEveryone
This is the great thread highlighted just now by @zoeamar at #ProjectEveryone. As leaders, we shouldn't be afraid of being afraid. Learn alongside your team. Get in the trenches, be humble, learn and adapt. We are all speaking with one voice. https://twitter.com/caronlb/status/1243014288144568325?s=19
Leadership: look at where you can pivot. Show your supporters how you are changing and bring them with you.

Remote working: bring your office culture online. Once we've sorted our tech issues. How can we continue to bring the team together? How to recreate shared experiences?
Shout out from @zoeamar to @EmilyCasson who has made virtual team working work brilliantly. Involve your teams every step of the way. Check in with them. Encourage teams to prioritise their wellbeing.

#ProjectEveryone
There are opportunities in these horrendous times:

Enormous appetite for collective action e.g. 750k nhs volunteers.

Build powerful engaged communities around your comms.

Find creative ways to fundraise, eg #donateyourcommute or conference call bingo!

#ProjectEveryone
@rachelstefshef and @EmilyWillKnow are up next on #FundraisingEverywhere #ProjectEveryone (have I been using the wrong hashtag all afternoon??) on changing plans with funders.
Really helpful chart making distinction between unrestricted and restricted funding in communicating changing plans with funders.

And thinking beyond fundraising. Or at least it mustn't be siloed.

@EmilyWillKnow @rachelstefshef
#FundraisingEverywhere
Start with need. Fully explore risks.

Great content in these slides! Thank you for your generosity, @rachelstefshef @EmilyWillKnow.

#FundraisingEverywhere
Define your ideal strategy. Good point about ensuring collaboration and not reinventing the wheel.

Evolve donor relationships. Again note the distinction between restricted and unrestricted funders.

#FundraisingEverywhere
Helpful insight into the ways that donors are thinking during the crisis and how to communicate with them from @rachelstefshef and @EmilyWillKnow of @IG_Advisors.

#ProjectEveryone
#FundraisingEverywhere
Find silver linings. No organisation I know is more into meeting for coffee than @IG_Advisors @doublemacc @rachelstefshef so this really is the new normal for them!

Finally, bend don't break! Survive through to transform.
Great point.
