A thread.

I am offering distraction this evening, in the form of my latest podcast episode on processing photos, and a photo essay on New York City.

The images from this photo essay were taken on a little MFT format camera, the Lumix GX85. This is not especially important, I am just giving a nod to the brand who let me play with their toy. It was excellent.

We visited NYC because my wife has a lovely couple of friends who live there. I hadn't been to New York since I was shopping for grad school. It was like coming home in some ways.

The great thing about a little camera like the GX85 is that you look like a tourist, not a photographer. You become invisible.

New Yorkers are pretty friendly on the whole. Especially in a donut shop. We visited a lot of donut shops on this trip and are still paying off the debt :)

The podcast I mentioned at the start of this thread talks about "the digital darkroom". Processing your images is so critical to the art of photography. Capturing is only half the job. What you do with the RAW file after that is everything.

/6
Simple elements in a city become inspiration for a photograph. Light is the thing. Shadows and contrast and highlights.
