Disabled ppl are getting letters from their GPs asking them to sign DNRs so health services can be saved for the “young & fit who have a greater chance” with #COVID19.

This is why we call out shitty narratives & comms that exclude us bc this is where they land.

#DeadlyAbleism
Kia ora koutou- posted this before bed and definitely wasn’t expecting this sort of response.

Firstly, no, I was not the recipient of one of these letters, I was commenting on something that happened in the UK, which I saw over Facebook.

Secondly, apologies for lack of CW.
This was intended to be a commentary on why I am so damn angry with a lot of communications happening here in NZ & around the world which emphasise “for most people this is fine” sort of narrative, & for ppl who should know better excluding disabled narrative experts on this.
This is *not* a space to discuss whether or not disabled people in your life would want a DNR or not. That’s triggering AF and people don’t need to see that talk when this issue highlights the end point of systemic ableism which consistently devalues our lives.
This is also not the place to justify ableist “triage”.

Triage in general has a massive ethical component & is not as simple as people are making it out to be, and nor does that decision making occur in a magical vacuum that is not informed by ableism.
Medicine and the healthcare system is ableist as hell.
