It's really instructive to be following the Covid-19 crisis closely in the UK and Spain. All the same things are happening in both countries, but in both a lot of people are refusing to accept that and instead insist on the unique wickedness and incompetence of the government.
It is absolutely clear that both governments have made huge mistakes and that both are hampered by systems that they, in part at least, helped to establish, but beyond that we all just have to accept that htis is a crisis that no-one saw coming - even if they should have done.
The key quesiotn foe me is would anyone else be doing any better right now? I have to be honest and say that in Europe generally, the answer is probably no. Elsewhere - the US and Brazil, for example - you can't say it. Beyond that, we have to get through this.
We will not get through it - here, in Spain, in Italy, France, anywhere - without unity. That does not mean not asking tough questions, but it does mean working from a basic assumption that everyone wants the same outcomes and no-one is doing anythiung other than their best.
