Not many people know this... my PhD was on the clay tablets containing the mythology from Ugarit - a late Bronze Age kingdom pretty much opposite the “finger” of Cyprus- known also as Ras-Shamra. And yes, I’ve forgotten almost everything about it. I never got to visit the site (Syria bring in almost constant turmoil) but I have an abiding love of Hebrew and especially the Psalms. I think it’s one of the reasons I felt so at home in the Orthodox Church.
My thesis is currently languishing in the New College library “towards a new theology of Ba’al” etc. Put me off academia for life ☺️
