In case you missed Hon. @JaneRuth_Aceng's address on Uganda's comprehensive response to #COVID19UG, here are the highlights;
Uganda registered its first case of #COVIDー19 on 21st March, 2020. As of today, Uganda has 44 confirmed cases. Majority were travellers from UAE & UK. Others are from Germany, USA, Afghanistan & China.

Some districts have also registered confirmed cases and these are Masaka (3) Hoima (2), Adjumani (1) and Iganga (1) & it's not clear if these were secondary to ongoing active transmissions.
#COVIDー19 outbreak was declared in China on 31st Dec, 2019. @GovUganda immediately placed proactive measures at Ebbs International Airport. However due to large numbers of Ugandans returning home from countries that were closing up, #COVID19UG got into the country.

This then informed the change of strategy from prevention of importation to suppression of transmission. Several countries were added onto the first category list, contacts of positive cases were tested & followed up & @KagutaMuseveni declared a national emergency. #StaySafeUg
What will @GovUganda do in these 14days of Quarantine?
🔸Rapidly find and test suspected cases.

🔸All confirmed cases will be isolated & duly treated.

🔸Strengthen systems to ensure that people sho suddenly manifest symptoms are picked up & well managed.

Movement of Health Workers;
🔸Those on #COVID19UG response should submit details of their vehicles to the Under Secretary @MinofHealthUG to get stickers.

🔸Those providing other health care services should submit Institutional & National IDs to @MoWT_Uganda for stickers.
For the health workers who use public transport, @KCCAUG will station buses in defined locations for you to board and report to work. KCCA will communicate the Standard Operating Procedures relating to that arrangement. #StaySafeUg #COVID19UG
@MinofHealthUG is cognizant that inspite of #COVID19UG, the population is prone to other health emergencies. The public is advised that routine immunisation services will continue & pregnant women have priority access to vehicles stationed for transport to health facilities.
Working with partners, @MinofHealthUG call agents have been increased from 20 to 345 and will continue to work in three shifts for 24hours everyday. The toll free lines are 919, 0800-100-066, 0800-203-033 and 0800-303-033. You can also WhatsApp on 0770-818 -139.

In regards to Psychosocial support, Health workers in Entebbe, Naguru, Mulago and all regional referral hospitals have been oriented in providing psychological first aid & debriefing as they care for people affected by #COVID19UG. #StaySafeUg
Quarantine Payments: There was a realisation that some categories of people such as students and those doing labour export couldn't afford accommodation in the hotels identified. @MinofHealthUG then made a commitment to pay for these people.

Social Distancing: Looks like some people don't believe that #COVIDー19 is real. By observing what is happening in other countries much more developed than Uganda, we should be aware of what can happen if we don't practice extreme self distancing, be responsible for your health.
On those closed out of the Country: This is being practiced by many other countries. Uganda has over 1000 people that have been locked out by their home countries. What is important is to keep safe by following @MinofHealthUG guidelines.
