PRIVACY A THREAD:

Going forward, privacy is going to be a huge issue...

Having extensively studied the subject both at undergraduate and postgraduate level this is my take:

Privacy first of all is the ultimate control of one’s personal information...
I say personal information for want of a better term because information and the means of processing it has drastically changed over the years...

now my Netflix knows what shows I like, when I like and even where I like it....but that’s gist for another day....
To be in control of your personal information means...

to determine at any point in time who has access to said information

and to what extent....
A question that may come to your mind is the operation of consent clauses...

like the ones we all click “I agree” to on informational platforms...

and that’s also gist for another day....
The main aim of this thread is to let you know that privacy is real...

and like IP rights they have an unseen and variegated way of affecting you as an individual......
In Europe privacy is seen as an issue of dignity....

that is to say with privacy comes dignity of persons to which is a fundamental human right....
In America privacy is viewed from the stand point of autonomy of persons...

which is to say that a person should not endure unnecessary interference from the government...

which ever view you pick, it is certain that privacy is the total control over personal information...
With the propagation of privacy we might begin to see the enforcement of concepts...

like the right to be forgotten entrenched in many Data protection regulations in the world...
P.S: the right to be forgotten primarily evolved in Spain....

a man had tax issues which he battled in court...

a local newspaper carried the gist and Google through their indexing technology also carried it based off the newspaper’s report...
The Said man resolved the tax issues however his name was still visible on Googles search index as a tax offender....

He took Google to court and they objected stating that the local Newspaper company was to blame and not them as they were simply an indexing entity....
After a consideration of the circumstances by the court....

Particularly the adverse effects on the man’s survival prospects...

The court held that he did have the right to have, all that now acquitted past, be forgotten and removed from Google....
