I'm not one for critical tweets, but I'm astonished. Yesterday I got an email about exams from #Oxford Universities Pro-Vice Chancellor. His closing line:

"I wish you every success with your studies at this extraordinary time."

Where is the genuine concern for students welfare?
Now, these few words may seem insignificant. But let me tell you why I'm so taken back by them.

Despite the efforts of many, these few words have confirmed the uni's priorities:
1️⃣ exams and upholding academic tradition.
2️⃣ supporting its students.

That just isn't right.
The PVC could have ended by offering us reassurance that the uni would support us in whatever way possible.

He could simply have wished us good health and gave us his best wishes for these challenging times.

But no. Instead, he chose to wish us academic success.
I'm afraid students have a lot more to worry about right now than 'academic success'.

I get uni leadership have a tough job, and respect how hard they must have worked to rearrange assessment. But I felt it was important to get this view across, so the uni can learn from this.
I'd also like to thank all of the dedicated staff at the uni and it's colleges who I think do, genuinely, have students best interests at heart.

Just to be clear, this thread isn't about you.

It's about the absence of a 'students first' culture at the top of this uni.
