To cheer people up, time to start a thread of good UK cycling infrastructure. For video 1, we have WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT HOW IT PASSES THIS ROUNDABOUT!!! Followed by a well positioned bus stop and priority over the side road@. @RantyHighwayman @PlasticPlanners @StopKillingCycl
To follow up with, "Where is the road? Why no road? can I play on the zipline?" This route runs up the spine of the housing estate, and was deliberately designed to be more direct than the roads. As such it runs through parkland so no pollution. @CarFreeNorwich @NorwichCycling
As you will have seen above, where this does inevitably cross roads there is some thought applied. Tactile paving to slow the cars down. And even though we are now less than 1/4 miles from the shops, its about 2 miles by road still.
OBSERVATIONS: I am not riding fast, this infrastructure is designed for a 5 year old. As @peterwalker99 notes in his book, we need to build for the pootling cyclist, not the racer.
This was all put in in the 80s, none of this is radical anymore.
All would be harder to retrofit.
