When Colossians 3:8 mentions ridding yourself of “filthy language” from your mouth, what does that mean to y’all?
My view:
I know languages have changed, but what even society deems as “filthy language” is what I count. If it causes the rating of a movie to go up, I ain’t saying it. If I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a little kid saying it, I ain’t saying it.
To me, Is that cussing? Yep. Is that talking inappropriately? Yep.

If it doesn’t bring honor to Christ or can ruin your witness, I don’t want to justify it. Who I was before Christ justified the words I said or just didn’t care. That was me “doing my own thing.”
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” -Galatians 2:20

I am not who I was.

I ask “would Christ talk like that?”
I’ve personally seen attempts to justify it, but I do question the “how?” because coming from the world, that’s how we talked.. but Christ took me out of that, and for me, the way I talk is completely different. I’m no longer comfortable with it.
This isn’t meant to condemn anyone at all, but I pray it does get people thinking and feel free to DM me to further discuss it if you’d like! Remember, we aren’t under some religious “do’s and dont’s ”, but as believers be open to the Holy Spirit revealing and changing things
I understand maybe for some it’s a struggle. I had the WORST mouth before Christ and even afterwards I caught myself. It took discipline and understanding I wanted to personally honor God with my words. I gave it over to the Lord to rework in me. You aren’t excluded from that.
“He who began a good work in you WILL carry it on to completion..” (Phil. 1:6)

If this hits home for you, don’t be discouraged, cause God isn’t done with you yet. If you’d like prayer/discussion again DM! It’s not condemnation, I pray it’s just iron sharpening iron. Love y’all!
