History of e Rhodesian Parliament nw Zimbabwe. Construction began 1895 as e Cecil Hotel,but remained a hotel in name only. In 1895 e unfinished building was bought by e British South Africa Company,which by Royal Charter administered e affairs of e country.

2.1924,e first sitting of Parliament was held across the street at The Miekles Hotel Dance Hall due 2 e large number of people who wanted to attend e historic occasion.

7. Five years after Smith declared Unilateral Independence from Britain .Rhodesia became a Republic,it’s 1st session of Parliament was opened by e ceremonial president http://DuPont.It  was a bicameral Parliament,e House of Assembly and e Senate.

The House of Assembly 66 members ,50 whites elected by white voters & 16 blacks ,8 elected by black voters and 8 elected by tribal electoral colleges .Ndabaningi Sithole was one of e black MPs.

3. After e launch of e 30 member Legislature,PM Coghlan moved to set development of Rhodesia in motion,however Coghlan died in 1927 .In came PM Moffat,grandson of Robert Moffat whose signature “achievement” was e racist Land Apportionment Act of 1930.
