I’ve done an about turn. I have argued on here recently that the govt has done the right thing not including butchers/bakers/grocers in the essential services list.

I reckon I was wrong and I’ll tell you for why:
Firstly, we’re assuming these small businesses are less able to maintain the same health standards as supermarkets.

This is not only condescending, it also makes you wonder if any health standards are governed in normal times. Do we even have health inspectors anymore?
Secondly, local business is what we should be encouraging. These are the businesses we want to keep going, keep employing locals and keep meat/bread/veggies in the production line.
I get the argument that the less businesses open create less opportunity for the virus. I get it because I made it against many on here, but I’m flip flopping. I think the risk is worth it. I’m not playing fast and loose with peoples lives, I’m simply saying they can manage this.
The flour shortage is not due to a lack of flour. It’s from a lack of packaging.

I’ll say that again. It’s from a lack of packaging.

How about the local Bin Inn? Not open, but they should be. No packaging required, hell, bring your own Tupperware.
I just think these things can be managed. With proper guidelines. I know they made these decisions at such short notice, but I love it when politicians change their minds. It shows they’re listening.
