One reason that I am not tweeting out excitement about WA and CA is b/c, though their numbers are encouraging, they are by no means out of the woods.

I would *HATE* myself for planting hope and then having that hope shattered. I care about the morale of people following me. /1
That's one thing that I'm *so* frustrated with on Twitter.

It seems like there are several enormous accounts masquerading as experts who just... do not give a fuck about helping people get through this.

Not only do they *prefer* bad news to good news, they mock good news /2
I don't get that. Like... on a human level, I see that attitude as evil.

Do they not understand that people are hurting, people are trying to get through this? They need that glimmer of hope. They need to know their job & security & safety was shattered *for a reason* /3
I see people who are uncomfortably ok w/ their lives being upended *if it saves lives*. We all need to feel like we're saving lives, like there is purpose in the suffering.

And lots of Twitter is like "lol, everything bad, US suck, no good anywhere" /4
And I *might* be able to tolerate that attitude if it were true but it just fucking isn't!

It's not true! There are some good signs! And these fuckers with secure jobs, tweeting in their pajamas, don't give a fuck! They are a wrecking ball for the human soul! /5
I try to be cautious with optimism b/c, if I'm wrong, I'm worried people who trust me will have their very precious, very fragile hope shattered.

That scares me!

The effects of what I tweet scare me!

Maybe I've got too big an opinion of myself, but also morale is precious /6
I am a very meager account. But I see these people with 10X or 100X my following just out there spreading disinformation, despair, panic, and flat out ignorance and I just gawk at what evil they spread.

Maybe not intentionally, but the effect of their words can hurt people! /7
And the crazy thing is they get *paid* to do this. They make money when people click, panic, freak out, get hurt, fall into despair over bad information.

And when this is over, they'll never pay a price for their lies (or ignorant bullshit, I've little energy distinguish) /8
Some people are out there doing their best.

And some are not.

Some are out there looking for angles, looking for advantage in a crisis, eager to destroy, to shatter, to tear down.

We need to purge them from the ranks of our information society. They should pay a price /9
(gosh, that got dark. I almost wish I hadn't changed my avatar to look so cheery, that's a disturbing contrast)
