Just remembered I've been at a party with Jude Law which is just about the most pleasant possible thought to have before I fall asleep.

Ok who wants to hear the Jude Law story?

Well the people seem to have spoken. Awkward celebrity encounters by a young PA Danni will be shared this afternoon.

OK here it goes...

how I met Jude Law after a 14 hour day on set in a Blizzard

1/?

The year was 2015. I'd survived weeks of the Polar Vortex blizzard in West Michigan whilst working as key set PA on The End of the Tour. Reader, I am an average height lady and the snow drifts were at least as tall as I.

At the Michigan wrap party after the last day of shooting in MI, the 1st AD and I got a bee in our bonnet. I HAD to go with them to NYC for the one day of shooting there. Thus a conspiracy was born amongst us (and I think the cast) to ensure I could go.

Again, this was for ONE day of shooting in NYC, but who doesn't want a free trip to NYC? Even if it was during a Polar Vortex... A day or so and 12 hour road trip with the basecamp PA later and I'm in NYC! We packed light. Just what we needed for set + hanging out after.

We stayed in Brooklyn w/ some NYC-based crew. We were shooting in Manhattan. The shoot day was a reverse split. 1am call. My first and only Uber Black Car I will ever take to set. But a scripty, costumer and PAs rolling up to location in a Black Sedan was fantastic.

We do all the NYC exteriors for the movie in one day. It goes really well and I love the local ADs and PAs we had. But the core crew and the cast is sad the journey is really coming to an end now. Jason decides he wants to throw us a shindig for the run of show team.

(I swear we are getting to the Jude Law part, but this context is necessary!)

I need to reiterate, POLAR VORTEX and EXTERIORs. I was wearing thermal leggings, jeans, snowbard pants and equal number of layers on top. Plus coat. Hair in a beanie. For 14+ hours.

And we're staying in Brooklyn. The party is at The Bowery. There is no possible way we can go back and ever get to the party. So we (hair, other PA, me) make a fateful decision. Fuck it, go straight to the party, it's just going to be people we know right?

WRONG.

We get to the hotel. We get there first but we anticipated that. Head to the bar. Slowly start to notice there's a lot of people dressed in black-tie attire... and then we see him. Jon Hamm. PLOT TWIST.

9/

The cast premiere of the final season for Mad Men just finished and they're all there in all their gorgeousness. We immediately bee-line to the bathroom and try to figure out how to look less... like middle schoolers who just got back from their first ski-trip.

I got lucky, my base layer was all black. In the dark, with my hair in a little top bun, I looked very typically NYC. But Reader, I felt the least cool I had felt in my entire life because I now had to carry around a backpack with snow pants shoved into it.

Eventually the party gets going in the VIP. I settle in. I'm with my work friends and finally feel at ease. We're having drinks and food and just reminiscing about the wild adventure we just all had together and how we survived shooting in a blizzard.

12/Jude Law is coming

After a while, I start to notice there's some other folks joining us. It's the cast and crew from Mad Men! They have the other side of the VIP area and we all co-mingle. I spot a supermodel and some other celebs. Some rich kid tries to hit on me. and then I turn around...

And there right before my eyes, Jude Law. Just standing there. All tall and handsome and nice and smiling. He's looking for someone. He spots them. Our costume designer. I scan the room and it suddenly hits me where I am. I geek out, on the inside, for just a minute.

I don't know how to describe what that moment felt like, but if you've ever felt it, if you were ever a PA, you know how I felt.

I never talked to Jude orr anyone from Mad Men or the Model. but I will always cherish that night and Jason and James and The End of the Tour.
