These preambles are a bit weird.
Previously, on Australia's response to the coronavirus.
Things are, the prime minister says, getting "very real".
I am sure it's intended to be reassuring, setting out everything that is already being done, but it just makes me anxious about what must be coming next. What terrible thing requires this long a build-up?
Oh. Free childcare. That's not terrible at all.
That's such a good announcement, why would you bury it in all this confusing and sad stuff?
"There are no more unions and bosses" lol are you sure?
Parliament is back on Wednesday to pass stimulus package part three.
Morrison: "We are a strong society. We are a Liberal Democratic society and, as I said in the House, we will demonstrate to the world here in Australia how such societies can deal with these sort of challenges our way, the Australian way."
Morrison ends with: "So stay positive, Australia. Stay connected, stay strong. We will get through this together."

The PM sounds like he has just heard really bad news. He may just be exhausted, which would be perfectly fair. But I feel more worried now.
AG Christian Porter is announcing two changes that have been made to >100 awards.

- two weeks pandemic leave to all covered in that award
-Ability to take leave at half pay.
Morrison says that Australia has now reached a testing rate of more than 1,000 tests for Covid-19 per 100,000 head of population.

"That is 1% of the population. We are the first country to the best of our knowledge that has been able to exceed that mark."
This is extremely good news and a great achievement. (Should've opened the press conference with this, just a suggestion for the PM's probably also very tired speechwriter)
Gremlins in the feed again.
Morrison is asked why the advice on sending kids to school and childcare has changed, and he says it hasn't - the health advice has always been that they can go to school or childcare.

[This is true, he's never said anything different. States have, not Morrison]
Morrison on childcare: "This virus is going to take enough from Australians without putting Australian parents in that position of having to choose between the economic wellbeing of their family or the care and support and education of their children."
PM is asked what keeps him awake at night?

He says he moved his family from Sydney down to Canberra so he could be with them, "and they sustain me".

He gets emotional talking about the stories his grandmother used to tell about keeping spirits up in the Depression.
Morrison: "You have got to keep your family positive and keep connected and together. To us, our faith is very important to us. That helps us get through each day. But every family is different. Stay together, Australia."
[He didn't say what kept him up at night but this is probably one question where not actually answering the letter of it is ok. Because the question really was: show us your humanity.]
Morrison said there are no structural changes to expenditure in the response to the coronavirus. No long tail, no lasting change, everything is intended to snap back to pre-corona status quo once the pandemic is over.
Morrison is asked whether states should pass on land tax waivers to make it easier for landlords to negotiate with tenants.

He says landlords should negotiate with tenants, because it's in both their interests.
"I tell you what the great incentive for a landlord is, if that tenant goes bust and can't pay rent then no-one is paying rent and they will be looking for a tenant if a very bad market from 6 months from now. My advice to landlords is sit down with your tenants and work it out."
PM says there will be another national cabinet meeting tomorrow. Presser to follow that, if there's anything to announce.
