On a less-fun note. I saw comments from an Amazon warehouse worker talking about how Amazon should reduce hours and only ship essentials and...

the thing is, you don't know what's essential for people who suddenly can't leave home.

"Essential" is kind of a difficult call.
Like I am absolutely 100% pro-giving Amazon distribution workers All The Things.

Money, Healthcare, PPE, space, lots of time off, childcare, extremely expensive and delicious food.

I was for that anyway but I am also for that now. I get where this worker is coming from.
Amazon's warehouse and distribution model has been unsustainable for a long time and Covid-19 is just exposing and exacerbating all of that.

It doesn't make the services Amazon provides less essential though.
As an example: I'm having a lot of trouble staying on top of my dishes and to make sure I keep eating, I've given in and ordered plastic cutlery.

Only Amazon considers this "non-essential" so it's not going to be here for weeks.

Now, I can accept that right now. I get it.
Those plastic utensils ARE essential for me, though.

So it's... complicated.
And it's possible I have a more nuanced understanding of this as someone who has been in this "not getting out much" situation for a lot longer than the majority of folks.

If we want people to make it through this thing intact, the goal is to help folks thrive, not just survive.
And none of that excuses the hell the folks are going through who are responsible for getting those things to us.
Jeff Bezos has the power to fix most of this right now with like a tiny bit of his ridiculous dragon-hoard of gold.

The fact that he hasn't and won't? Unconscionable.
I honestly don't know what to do about this as someone with extremely limited options and I never really have known what to do about it.

My thoughts about boycotting and privilege are documented.
It would be pretty easy to solve some of these problems with the distribution chain though. But I don't know how we force the people with the money to just Do The Right Thing.

They CAN do it. They just... won't.
