do y’all know the beginnings of “third coast” rap? rappers from the gulf coast; were not respected by coastal rappers, not played in coastal markets, so their success was regional; even though y’all stole years later.
cash money, no limit and swishahouse are the most well-known “third coast” record labels. throughout the ‘90s and early ‘00s, they were disrespected by coastal rappers until they wanted success in the southern market; which resulted in the collaborations like “big pimpin”
can you tell i’m working on a book proposal about southern rap, because i’m fired up! ironic, because the most popular rappers in rap are from the southern untied states. let’s not bring up the limewire and tumblr era of hip-hop, where coastal rappers found out about “trill”
