Right now it’s a critical time to observe the shelter in place order to save lives, Ventura County CEO Mike Powers said
in a tele-town hall hosted by Assemblymember Christy Smith and Sen. Henry Stern Tele-town Hall.
When shopping, focus on the essential items, he said.
President of Adventist Health Simi Valley Jennifer Swenson said maintaining social distancing is important. She thanked the county and Simi residents for supporting doctors, nurses and staff at Adventist Health Simi as they work tirelessly during this health emergency.
At Adventist Health, Swenson said they are experiencing a low volume of patients now, however, numbers are increasing daily, she said. "From what we’ve seen in NYC and Italy, those who need hospitalization require a higher level of care," she said.
Adventist Health Simi acted early to double # of ventilators available. They're also working w/ county to make sure they have enough going forward. They have enough PPE for providers & patients for now. Due to national shortage, they're conserving supplies for surge, Swensen said
Swenson thanks the Simi Valley community for their support. Several restaurants in town have provided meals to hospital employees, she said.
She also said patients should only come to the emergency department if they have a life-threatening condition, otherwise, they should contact their primary care doctor or urgent care.
Lack of health insurance should not be a deterrent for those who need medical care, said VC Public Health Director Rigoberto Vargas.
Compliance with Safer at Home order: The approach, so far has been education.
There are a few areas where people haven’t complied, but overall businesses have been tremendous in terms of their compliance, Ventura County CEO Mike Powers says.
Property taxes deadline in Ventura County is still April 10. That hasn’t changed, Powers said. But the county may waive penalties in the event of serious hardship.
Sen. Henry Stern said there is a statewide Neighbor to Neighbor program. He encourages people to reach out to older and vulnerable neighbors who may need help, support.
"We are here to help you in any part of this process," Smith said re: unemployment benefits, getting Covered CA insurance etc. Stern said Stay at Home and keep your distances when outside, it will save lives. Done.
