🧵This evening, the @LawSocietyLSO formally told its licensing candidates that the June exam dates are canceled. This is a short thread with my thoughts.

The LSO has, understandably, not provided future exam writing dates. They are exploring "late summer/early fall".
The exams were scheduled for June. Let us walk through this change.

Broadly interpreted, the prospective date range means that new exam dates could occur between:
- The end of July/early August (summer begins 6/20)
- Early October (Fall begins 9/22)
If you are an optimist: the first rescheduled exam could occur approximately one month after the Solicitor exam's original date (June 23).

It is also possible that the first reschedule exam could occur approximately three months after June 23.
Under the status quo approach (i.e. commitment to writing in the future), it is difficult to believe that the LSO and employers will not have to traverse spillover effects: exams during articles, modifying the program, and so forth.

Why not contain this via alternative options?
In a span of 5-14 days, Ontario universities transitioned ~500,000 students to alternative education and assessment vehicles.

Let us assume that law students finish their academic year on May 1. Assume that most of us are "free" until August. The LSO has 12 weeks to play with!
Today is April 1. The LSO has (at least) one month to implement an alternative to the bar exams. If it's a colossal failure, you can return to exams!

Alberta and Manitoba are purportedly using online modules. We can afford to try/do the same.
