I got the call at 4pm. He was not alone when he died. He was with a doctor & nurse, the nurse holding his hand.
He was not alone. He was loved. I loved him.
I want to feel angry. I mostly feel sad. Defeated. Maybe the anger will come.
Thank you for all your kind words, truly.

I want to share a few things about my dad. I don& #39;t want him to be just a point on a curve graph. And, selfishly, I kind of want to brag about him.
He& #39;s not the only one to die from COVID-19 and sadly won& #39;t be the last. I just think he& #39;s great and I want people to know about him.

He grew up in Brooklyn. His father, stoic & quiet. His mother, part of a large Italian family I& #39;m still close with, outgoing & funny.
My dad was a product of both: quiet & funny. Gentle & silly. A classic good boy. He entered college with plans to study speech pathology.

He decided to teach English instead. He started at 22. He loved teaching. He would do it for 50 years.
In his late 20s he went to a friend& #39;s bbq, saw a pretty lady, and they hit it off. She wore a white blouse, skirt & blue beret to their wedding. Nine months later I was born.

My parents had 4 girls in 6 years. Sometimes people would ask my dad if he had ever wanted a son, and he always said the same thing: "No."
He loved driving us places, even the airport. If we apologized for it he& #39;d say, "I want to do it. I get to spend time with you."

No story of my dad would be complete without mention of his 4 grandsons. They LOVED him. He was so good with kids! Warm, animated, always teaching.
He used to say his own dad was kind of distant, so he wanted to be the opposite.
Here are a few pics I& #39;ve taken over the years.

What the heck, a few more. I have taken tens of thousands of photos of my nephews, so posting only 8 is extreme restraint on my part.
Thank you to everyone who has reacted to this thread so far. It means so much. It keeps part of him alive.
