The constant comparison of private sector vs the public sector over and over again is meant to divide us. The suffering (or achievements) we all experience is common to all of us, no one is better or less worthy. Is It too much to ask for leadership that sought to unite us?
Teachers, educational assistants, and other support staff are working hard to deliver education in a way that has never been done before. They are collaborating, learning new platforms and reaching out to students and families multiple times a day to ensure learning continues.
This notion that you are "lucky to have a job so be quiet" is maddening. A lot of people are hurting and the staff who are being laid off are providing for their families in a very stressful time. To add to it while compounding that they weren't "really" working is insulting.
They are essentially turning an ocean liner on a dime and doing a tremendous job (though there is no recognition of that). Our society is under huge anxiety, the constant barrage of public vs private is unhelpful and petty. Our leaders are failing us with this rhetoric.
