I am also a nurse who sat in for SEVERAL circs all of which went perfectly fine and the baby slept the whole time, I know the entire procedure inside out. Again, do not come for me.

So. We took Henry in for a routine circumcision (he couldnât get one in when he was born due to all of his complications and being in the NICU so we had to wait until he was discharged). We met with the doctor, discussed the procedure and risks and Henry was feeling fine.
I had seen horror stories on Facebook groups about babies bleeding so bad they almost died but it was so rare, I just thought it would never happen to us especially if I carefully monitored the bleeding. I hadnât even packed a bottle because I figured weâd be home for feeding.
We said goodbye and handed him to the nurse, to go out to the waiting room. And eventually they bring him out to us and now we have to wait 15 minutes so they can check the area and make sure heâs good to go home. He honestly looked fine. Didnât even look like he cried.
I noticed the dark circle on his disposable get bigger and when the nurse came to check him, it had grown significantly. He was bleeding a lot. They took him back to the procedure room.
This whole time period is a blur. I remember them asking me if I had a bottle to calm him but he was breastfed so I had nothing. He was screaming so loud we could hear him in the waiting room. They kept telling us he wouldnât stop bleeding and they might have cut an artery.
Phillip had to go back to try and calm him so they could try and apply pressure and he came back saying he was in a pool of his own blood. The doctor said he has to put some stitches in to try and stop the bleeding.
They stitched the incision but they had to do it WHILE HE WAS AWAKE AND NOT NUMB because he was bleeding so fast, they didnât have time to wait. Can you imagine being stitched shut while you can feel everything?? He screamed so loud. There was blood everywhere.
When I could finally go back, he had passed out. They put a pressure bandage on the incision to try and stop the bleeding because stitching it shut didnât work. He was still bleeding. They had to call the ambulance to take us to another hospital with a more equipped OR and NICU.
Phillip took Winston home to feed him, I rode with Henry in the ambulance. He slept the whole time. We got examined by the pediatric ER doctors and then, Henryâs O2 started to drop. His little face was turning slightly blue.
We got transferred to the PICU to stay for a couple of days. Henry started to have periods of apnea where he would just stop breathing and his oxygen would drop. They did xrays and scans and blood tests to see why he bled so much.
The X-ray showed he had air outside of his lungs from screaming so hard when they had to stitch him up to try and stop the bleeding.

Henry and I had to stay for 2 days in the PICU while he underwent every test imaginable. Got stuck with so many needles, xrays, brain ultrasounds, EEGs to test for seizures, and that first night he wasnât allowed to eat because he wasnât breathing so he was just hungry

Brother and daddy couldnât stay with us so they only got to visit for a little while during the day.
He even had to get put back on the vent for oxygen because his O2 stats were so low. Eventually his Apnea had self resolved enough for us to get discharged with monitoring equipment since Phillip and I are both CPR certified.
Henryâs 7 months now and I pray he doesnât have future issues. If I could go back, I would 100% never even step foot in the urology clinic. He didnât deserve to go through this. He didnât have to go through it. He suffered because of my ignorance. I will forever regret it

119 infant boys die each year from circumcision procedures. Henry was almost one of them. Circumcision have been proven to be nothing but cosmetic. They do not prevent STIs, they do not prevent UTIS or cancer Or anything. There are no benefits. Only risks.
