Day one of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge and my current read by Anne Enright certainly fits the bill. Has me constantly laughing out loud
Already running behind, but my Day 2 choice -a book about friendship- is I Found My Tribe by Ruth Fitzmaurice. Beautiful and heartbreaking in equal measure. #ReadIrishWomenChallenge
Day Three of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge is -new & due book releases- so I& #39;m hitting up some from my @gutterbookshop preorder list: Unfiltered by @SophWhiteWhoop , After the Silence by @oneilllo & A Ghost in the Throat by @DoireannNiG Presents to myself for post isolation
Day Four of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 is & #39;book set in a place other than the one you live in& #39;. I& #39;ve chosen my other home of Western Australia featured in Red Dirt by E.M Really. A great thriller.
I& #39;ve gone with A Girl is a Half Formed Thing by Eimear McBride for day 5 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 , book from the decade you were born. This astonishing story starts off in the 80s, just like I did. Similarities (luckily for me) end there. Frightening & brilliant book
Day 6-I& #39;ve gone for the diaspora part of & #39;Book by an Irish WOC/ethnic minority/new Irish/diaspora& #39; category for the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 and chosen @SamanthaJPower The Education of An Idealist. Spoke to me on so many levels, personally & professionally. Highly recommend
& #39;Book about social change& #39; for day 7 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 and it has to be Correspondences edited by @JessicaTraynor6 Powerful anthology calling for the end of direct provision, a call which is even more pressing on the current climate
Day 8 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 is -a book with a death in it- highly recommend & #39;The Maamtrasna Murders& #39; a wonderful work by the super talented @kellehmv Weaves history, murder, colonisation, loss of language and the human condition in a captivating read.
& #39;Book that challenged the way you see the world& #39; is the prompt for Day 9 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 I& #39;ve chosen @EmmaDabiri Don& #39;t touch my Hair. A wonderfully written combination of academic research and lived experience exposing racist, eurocentric hair & #39;norms& #39;
Day 10 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 was simply - a play - On Raftery& #39;s Hill by Marina Carr has stayed with me since I first read it and the 2018 staging @AbbeyTheatre was brilliantly done
It& #39;s The Importance of Being Aisling for Day 11 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 -a book that is great for reading aloud- could have chosen any of the series. If you are reading & laughing in company, you& #39;ll be asked so often & #39;what& #39;s so funny?& #39; it& #39;s easier to just read aloud
Re-read this recently for both the enjoyable storytelling and yummy recipes. I chose @SophWhiteWhoop & #39;Recipes for a Nervous Breakdown& #39; for Day 12 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 - Book where food/drink plays an important part- so many delicious treats linked to life stories.
Book you& #39;d like to give your younger self is day 13 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 - I& #39;ve picked & #39;Vagina A Re-Education& #39; by @lynnenright Knowledge is power & for too long women& #39;s bodies & health were kept a mystery, even from ourselves. Super informative, well written
Day 14 of the #ReadIrishWomenChallenge2020 is - a book with a journey - Edna O& #39;Brien& #39;s Girl stays with me. The journey of one of the & #39;Boko Haram& #39; girls from innocence to slavery and out the other side to an uncertain future. Haunting.
