Two weeks ago the CWU returned a huge 94.5% yes vote for strike action in our long running dispute with Royal Mail.
We didn’t call action. We put the country first and called on Royal Mail and government to use postal workers to keep communities connected https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2020/03/18/royal-mail-workers-offer-become-emergency-service-amid-coronavirus-crisis-12416165/amp/">https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/met...

We wrote to @BorisJohnson offering to check on the elderly, delivery medicine and connect communities
Our members continued to work in difficult circumstances. Some of the lack of PPE, dirty workplaces and lack of social distancing are a disgrace

Despite all of this your loyal posties carried on. The public support has been uplifting and inspiring

In a bid to keep the service going and protect our members we once again wrote to the company with a radical proposal to reduce the service, keep people safe but keep postal workers on our streets https://www.mirror.co.uk/money/coronavirus-royal-mail-told-cut-21784586">https://www.mirror.co.uk/money/cor...
Today, without even considering our offer Royal Mail have stated they will no longer engage with the CWU on working through the pandemic, they consider washing hands to be enough of a safety provision and say we are overstating our concerns.
We have reaffirmed our guidance to members to only work if they feel safe. We will also now directly engage the government, TUC and our legal representatives
The next time you hear someone saying unions are blocks to businesses remember this thread and remember your postal workers who will tomorrow be at your doors, connecting your community. Show them some love and tell @RoyalMail how wrong they are. Thank you for your support.
