A Thread on the sinking of #Venezuela Navy Patrol Ship #ANBV #NAIGUATA (GCG-23)

The #RCGS_Resolute was in international waters while conducting repairs to one of their engines when the #NAIGUATA approaches and orders the Resolute to follow them to #Margarita Island.

Being a civil ship in international waters the Captain of Resolute uses the onboard Sat phone to call the head office for direction as this is a highly unusual and Venezuelan navy are notorious for seizing ships under false pretence.

While communicating with head office for direction the Naiguata opens fire on the Resolute and rams her several times. The Resolute however is an Arctic cruise ship with special hull designed for ice breaking so it sustains almost no damage from the ramming.

Now under attack the Resolute captain has only one weapon to use. He rams the Naiguata back punching a hole in her hull. Now the Naiguata is sinking but still trying to fire on the Resolute and so they flee with out rescuing the crew.
Before it became obvious that they would not be able to hide the sinking of the Naiguana the regime had the AIS transponder from one of the tug boats in La Guaira harbour changed to match the Naiguana, making it appear as if she was in port and not sunk 180 meters underwater. 🤦
As some have asked how its possible the warship was so easily sunk by the cruise ship, the Resolute is almost 5 times the size of the Naiguana. This coupled with a reinforced hull for ice gives it a big advantage when ramming.
A possible bullet hole in the hull that would be from the 12.7 mm cannon. https://twitter.com/ConflictsW/status/1245431572796448770?s=20
Statement from RCGS Resolute ownership:
