I've seen some tweets today about people using personal laptops for confidential business....such as why don't the Judiciary use their own?

In general employees using their own laptops is a bad bad idea. Why? a thread....

1) You have no control over if it is encrypted nor how.
Windows 10 Home doesn't come with Bitlocker. You also have no control over passwords or if they are set to the the name of their dog.....and shared with the rest of family and also used on X and Y websites.
2) When the computer is disposed of you have no control of how it is disposed - disk in the skip anyone?

3) What do you do if the device subsequently gets lost/stolen?

4) How do you safely remove all trace of the data? Just delete........hrm, no!
5) How do you ensure the deivce has the latest security updates and virus protections?

6) Who owns the saved data?

7) What about computer failures? backups? security of backups..........
8) Most softwarelicences are user/device only = lost money.

9) Who controls the device when they the owner connects it to unsecure networks or surf for X, Y, and p0rn? and clicks on a link from a bank they haven't even an account with?

10) It's a minefield đź’Ł
