hi i just want everyone here, not just my fellow filipino mutuals, to be aware of what’s happening in the philippines right now — a thread
like every country in the world right now, we’re facing a very serious pandemic. very unfortunately, we’re facing the situation with a highly incompetent and vicious government. here are some of what’s happened:
this happened just today. there was a rally in quezon city because people were complaining about the lack of relief goods and here u can see the military using force to address the situation. https://twitter.com/dzmmteleradyo/status/1245190338727141377
many cities in the philippines have adopted this inhumane method of scaring people into staying in their homes despite the lack of monetary support from the government. theyre being put into “detention centers” which really just defeats the purpose of social distancing https://twitter.com/dzmmteleradyo/status/1245237246128582656
we’re very much lacking in concrete solutions to the problem. instead, during national presidential addresses, our president says very polarizing and disgusting statements.

1st pic - “they are very lucky to die for the country”
2nd pic - no explanation needed
“Don’t scare me with chaos, if you really want chaos, let’s cause trouble in this country. While there’s still no food, if you want gunfights, alright. If you want force, alright. I will not hesitate.”

“We are ready for you. Chaos, gunfight or killing, I will not ....”
there’s a competent mayor who expressed his opinion on the transportation ban implemented bc it negatively affects frontliners & people who don’t have the capacity to stop working. now he’s received a letter about violating an act that was set place after he expressed his opinion https://twitter.com/inquirerdotnet/status/1245286458602041344
why is this wrong?

Lex prospicit, non respicit: Laws are prospective, not retroactive. The government cannot punish individuals for violations of laws not yet enacted.
there’s extreme preferential treatment for people in power here. despite our lack of testing kits, senators like Tito Sotto, BongBong Marcos, etc. are getting tested twice, getting their results stat compared to countless patients who’ve died without receiving their results
we even have a senator who violated protocols by visiting a hospital and a grocery store and holding social gatherings despite testing positive
medical frontliners who are risking their lives due to the shortage of medical supplies are being offered . 500 PESOS A DAY to volunteer. to give context (although cost of living is different in the 2 countries, that’s 9.79 USD https://twitter.com/chamcabana/status/1243380465291034624
there’s so much more going on that i cant possibly condense this into one thread but filipinos who see this, feel free to add more information. i’d just like to end with this article. it really struck me and made me cry; it’s really just a peek into the strife of our people. https://twitter.com/esquireph/status/1240430782180511744
also for us filipinos!! https://twitter.com/coresvts/status/1245402478239027201
okay latest update: now we’re being silenced. people are being sent letters to visit a division in the government for “cybercrime” when we are simply criticizing the government that is supposed to listen to its people https://twitter.com/cheldiokno/status/1245536276964495360
