I learned to read when I was about 5 years old and have just kept devouring words since then. To that end as an adult I earned my Masters degree in Library and Information Science, which fed my hunger for words and learning things. 1/?
This past weekend my little family (2 humans, 1 dog, 1 cat) moved from the Boston area to Philadelphia. As you might guess I own a LOT of books. 2/?
As an aside, U-Haul's Book Box is one cubic foot. If you would like to guess how many cubic feet of books I own I will mail you an odd thing (might be a rock, might be a sticker, might be a book...). Closest without going over wins. 3/?
So, one of the first things I like to do to settle into a new place is unpack my books. I can't really get comfortable in my home office space. (Yes! I have my own office/making things space in my new place. I'm so fortunate!) 4/?
One of my favorite parts of unpacking my books is figuring out how I am going to organize them this time. Cataloging and Classification was one of my all time favorite parts of library school. It's a science, that like all sciences has an art to it. 5/?
The best thing about organizing my books is that I only need to please myself so the art side comes out a lot. Currently I'm creating a different arrangement than I have before and it is providing a soothing puzzle. 6/?
Later today I'll share the arrangement I'm going with this time! 7/?
Current Bookshelf Subject Order (a glimpse into my mind
): Role-playing Games, books about games in general, writing for games, writing, writing poetry, poetry, language, history, religion, witch type magic, herbs, plants, bees (bumble and otherwise), birds, animals, 8/?

farming and gardening, power (wind, solar, etc.), building (with one lone architecture theory book), the kind of crafts you would do on a farm like leather tanning, general craft books (the kind that are a mix of crafts) metal crafting, science crafting, 9/?
the â’¶ cookbook (because of course!), The Jewish Catalog (this is crafts and stuff that's all to do with being Jewish), dying fabric, sewing / making your own clothes, crochet, knitting, 10/?
leading into crafting for your pets (the transition here is a book called Animal Hats which is patterns for hats that look like animals into Crafting with Cat Hair), crafting for your pets, training animals, psychology (I am especially pleased by training into psychology), 11/?
philosophy, sociology, building communities, technology, data, and then there is a book called Observe, Collect, and Draw: A Visual Journal leading to books about drawing, making books and paper, Adventure Time Crafts (that transition is a little loose), 12/?
books about genre tv (like Doctor Who) leading into a beautiful hardcover Wes Anderson Collection book, The Art of Ooo, getting us to graphic novels, fiction (adult and young adult), children's fiction (chapter books!), and finally picture books! 13/?
The little lost lamb in all of this are memoirs. If you have a suggestion for you would put them in my liquid cataloging system, please let me know! 14/?
Cookery books and books about food are downstairs in the kitchen. 15/?
And the winner, closest without going over estimating the number of square feet of books is my friend @ChenelleB. She guessed 15 and the answer is 17! (DM me your current address when you have a chance) 16/17
One of the coolest, weirdest books I own is Legal Daisy Spacing: The Build-A Planet Manual of Official World Improvements by Christopher Winn published in 1985. My dad bought it for me in a grocery store when I was little. 17/17
