I& #39;ve always thought that dependency theorists got their basic framing backward. They saw the North as "dominant" and the South as "dependent", but in reality it& #39;s the North that& #39;s dependent on the South (for resources and labour). And that remains the case today.
Let me clarify: obviously I understand the ways in which the South has been rendered dependent. My point has to do with the *framing*. The framing reinforces a hierarchy. Flip it around and it highlights the dynamics of exploitation.
