I've always thought that dependency theorists got their basic framing backward. They saw the North as "dominant" and the South as "dependent", but in reality it's the North that's dependent on the South (for resources and labour). And that remains the case today.
Let me clarify: obviously I understand the ways in which the South has been rendered dependent. My point has to do with the *framing*. The framing reinforces a hierarchy. Flip it around and it highlights the dynamics of exploitation.
