A thread on upsets/unexpected results in the concluded Indian domestic season 2019-20
🔟 Chhattisgarh beat Mumbai 5 wkts (VHT)

Mumbai, the defending champions, had an upset loss against the Central Zone team Chhattisgarh on their opening fixture. Mumbai batting first posted 317 runs on board. Tare scored 90, Shreyas Iyer scored 50. Mumbai were 238/4 at 45 ov.
Suryakumar and Dube added 79 in last 5 overs. Suryakumar finished at 81* off 31.

Mulani and co reduced Chh to 125/4 at 25 ov. Amandeep Khare, the first player from Chh to play for India u19 was at the crease. Khare shared 97 runs partnership with former Mumbai spinner Shashank.
As Shashak got out, Chh needed 96 more in 58 balls. Khare and the other spinner Ajay Mandal blasted their way to take Chh home with a ball to spare.

This result proved costly for Mum, as the Chh prevailed over Mum to reach SF in a rained out QF.
9️⃣ Himachal took FIL against Karnataka (Ranji)

Himachal fresh from an away win at Dindugal, faced Karnataka at Mysore in the 3rd round. Kar electing to bat, were folded for 166 by HP pacers. Kanwar Abhinay took 5 wickets. Karun Nair (87) was the only batsmen to go past 30.
Karnataka pacers though reduced the HP top order to 32/4 on the final session of Day 1.

On day 2, opener Priyanshu Khanduri and all-rounder Rishi Dhawan scored half centuries and with support from other lower order batsmen HP reached 280, taking a lead of 114.
Padikkal scored 99 and Karun Nair scored another half century in second innings as Karnataka managed to get into a safe position.
HP, set 183 runs to get from 35 overs, settled for a draw after losing 2 early wickets.
8️⃣ Puducherry beat Bengal by 4 wkts (SMAT)

Both teams having won 3 from 5 games thus far, Bengal met Puducherry met on Round 7 of SMAT. Pud won the toss and inserted Ben to bat. Ben reached 55/2 in 7 overs as opener Vivek Singh got out to former TN spinner Suresh Kumar for 43.
After captain Easwaran fell, batsmen who came next couldn't score runs at the death overs and Ben could score only 33 runs in last 6 overs.

Pud got off to a flying start as captain D Rohit scored 55. Shahbaz Ahmed pulled things back with quick wkts as Pud fell from 91/1 to 96/4.
37 needed to score of 35 balls, Ben try to slow down things and another wkt fell. Vinay Kumar, coming in with 14 needed off 11, held the nerves and finished the match with 2 balls to spare.
7️⃣ Odisha beat Maharashtra by 3 wkts (VHT)

Maharashtra's initial two (plus) games were washed out and met Odisha on matchday 6. Batting first, Mah could post only 259 on board. Rahul Tripathi scored 69, while captain Kedar Jadhav scored 62. Pacer Suryakant picked 3 wkts.
Even as Maharashtra spinners picked regular wickets, captain Subranshu Senapati held his forte. Subranshu built partnerships with the middle order batsmen and carried Odisha home scoring an unbeaten 119.

The 23 year old Odisha captain is a player to watch out for.
6️⃣ Jammu Kashmir beat Delhi by 8 wkts (SMAT)

Unbeaten Delhi faced JK match day 5. Electing to bat first, Delhi lost opener Shikhar Dhawan for a 9-ball duck. Opener Hiten Dalal, and allrounders Nitish Rana and spinner Lalit Yadav helped Del post 165. Nitish Rana struck 55 off 30.
Captain Parvez Rasool conceeded just 15 runs of his four overs along with the wicket of his counterpart Shorey.

JK opener Shubham Khajuria got off to a flyer and scored 49 off 22. JK reached 70 in the powerplay. All rounder Manzoor Dar continued from where Khajuria left.
Manzoor Dar hit 8 fours and 3 sixes and scored 58 from 24 balls. JK batsmen made light work of the Delhi bowling attack and chased the target of 166 with more than 4 overs to spare.
5️⃣ Goa beat Jharkhand by 42 runs (VHT)

Goa's only win in VHT came against Jharkhand, a limited overs powerhouse in the domestic circuit.

Jha won the toss and elected to field. Former Delhi batsman Aditya Kaushik, playing just his second game for Goa, scored a brilliant 117.
Rahul Shukla took 6/33 for Jha. Kaushik played well and took calculated risk against the weaker bowlers of Jha.

Goa pacers were disciplined and restricted Jha to 66/4 in 20 overs, leaving the Jha middle order to score 200 runs in 30 overs. I
Captain Ishan Kishan and Virat Singh had a partnership of 80 runs but left arm spinner pegged back and derailed the run chase picking 4/35.
4️⃣ Delhi beat Vidarbha by 7 wkts (Ranji)

Vidarbha were unbeaten in FC cricket for 29 games. Delhi decided to insert Vidarbha to bat first, and the seamers bowled them out for 179 in 1st innings. Wasim Jaffer scored 83 but no contribution from others. Simarjeet picked 4 for Del.
The young Vid seamer Aditya Thakare bowled brilliantly and took 7/55 and two catches to dismiss Delhi for 163, giving Vidarbha a 16 run lead.

With Ishant getting injured, Vidarbha batsmen made merry of improved conditions. Ganesh S scored an unbeaten 100 and Vid declared.
Del's target was 347 in 92 ov. Nothing to lose, Delhi openers had a good start of 163 for 1st wicket. Nitish Rana coming at 3, started to counter attack, reached fifty in 26 balls. Rana finished at 105* of 68 as Del hunted the big run chase and ended Vidarbha's streak.
3️⃣ Goa beat Baroda by 4 wkts. (SMAT)

Goa had won just 2 T20 games in the 5 seasons before, met Baroda on the opening fixture of SMAT. Baroda elected to bat first, but their star players didn't make it big. Allrounder Swapnil Singh scored a 50. Amit Verma had 2/19 in 4 ov for Goa
2️⃣ Tripura took FIL against Odisha (Ranji)

In the first 3 rounds, Odisha had won all games with bonus point; Tripura lost 2 by an innings and the other by 8 wickets.
Odi inserted Trip to bat on Day 3 after first 2 days were washed out.
Tri opener Samrat Singha (65) and captain Milind Kumar (105*) ensured Odi seamers don't skittle them out cheaply, like they did in previous games. Post tea, Manisankar Murasingh played a brilliant knock of 72 off 70 to help Tri declare at 288/6 at the end of the day.
On the final day, Tri pacers Manisankar (3/36) and Rana Dutta (5/23) ran through the Odi lineup and dismissed them for 121.

Tri walked away with 3 points in the rain reduced game.
1️⃣ Meghalaya beat Mumbai by 6 wkts (SMAT)

Meghalaya, the new team from the north-east, faced domestic giant Mumbai on matchday 6 of SMAT at Wankhede. The hosts electing to bat, got off to a flyer reaching 75 runs in 9 overs. Meg bowlers bowled well then as Mum score 157 only.
Wicketkeeper Puneet Bisht gave a quick start to Meg scoring 23 off 12, but Mum bowlers picked 3 wits in 4 overs. Meg were 41/3 in 4 overs chasing 158.

In this tricky chase, Meg's professionals from the South, Ravi Teja and Sanjay Yadav stepped in.
Sanjay Yadav (55) took the aggressor role while Ravi Teja (61*) played the anchor and took Meg to a famous victory against a big team.

This win can be said as the biggest upset in the history of SMAT.
