Supreme Court said migration of lakhs of labourers was driven by fake news that lockdown would extend for 3 months.

Who spread such fake news & created a crisis?

This tweet is now deleted.

SOP: Tweet, delete, but screenshot goes viral on WhatsApp.
Typical fake news spreaders will make any noise against fake news look like a free speech issue.

But here's the menace of fake news that's been unleashed.

The Print said lockdown would be extended. PBNS handle busted it with official clarification.

After that, tweet deleted.
Here's something from the Rana Ayyub of health (mis)reporting.

She wrote that WHO said India has hit local transmission stage & Indian government denies it. Remember how many plugged this piece?

What's the truth though? Read one of the few factual tweets by Caravan to know.
The Quint reported that a doctor - part of a govt task force & has also met Modi - said that India has hit Stage3 but govt is hiding it.

Truth: That doctor is no doctor, he is in no task force and worse, he hasn't met Modi, & he never said what the Quint attributed to him!
IANS fed a report which predicted 25 crore COVID-19 cases. NDTV ran it.

The 'study' quoted had the logo of Johns Hopkins & Princeton University.

Both institutions distanced themselves from it. News was taken down but it went viral on WhatsApp by then!
See the screenshots and know what happened for yourself.

Congress puts out fake news. Congressi media spreads it. Later Congressi retracts. But by this time, the falsehood has reached thousands of doctors & possibly demoralised them. But the truth will never reach so many.
Check this one out too. Similar pattern.

A doctor attacks Modi's idea, says not enough protective equipment.

Rahul Gandhi retweets her and so do many leading Congressi journos.

Later, she says, her institution had all protective equipment but she did not know it.
When mediapersons go red in the face about how SC's observations are against free speech etc, why don't they raise matters of accountability seen sorely lacking? What have they done about this fake news epidemic?

Also, hat tip to @OpIndia_com for documenting all these fake news.
Media's 'here is more fake news to spread panic' approach to COVID-19 with leading editors' endorsement is dangerous.

Democracies are fighting a fake news epidemic even amid the Coronavirus epidemic.

And oh, scientists & farmers ended famines, not media https://twitter.com/ShekharGupta/status/1245251957268213762
