The tragedy of the NHS is that it's a system too well-loved for politicians to replace it with social insurance but not well-loved enough for the public to vote consistently to fund it adequately.
Lots of replies to this along the lines of "oh but Germany spends more money than we do."
Yes! That's the point! A good healthcare system is one that is universal but commands sustainable funding from its users.

system allows for more sustainable long-term funding (as not a political football as in
) AND benefits from being decentralised (as top
virologist Christian Drosten has said: speed & scale of testing wouldn't have been possible in a centralised system)



Doesn't mean the
system is perfect, or that
system doesn't have its advantages, or that
voters would accept a
