We have 1300 foundations in our state (WA) w/ about $55 billion combined. Just sitting there.
The IRS requires they distribute 5% each year.
Hoarded wealth is the enemy right now.

I used 2015 numbers cuz they were easiest to find and cuz more recent numbers probably don’t reflect this downturn yet.

And Donor Advised Funds are another secret hoard. Regular rich people can put their extra $$ aside into a DAF, and get a tax break at that time. But there is no requirement they actually send that money out.
Now would be a great time to require 10% payout.
