I wanted to give a little more astrological context to 2020 and how it’s rolling out so far.
We started the year with a Saturn/Pluto (♄=Saturn, ♇=Pluto) conjunction. Happening every 36 years or so (the last time was early 80’s) it’s *era defining* astrology. It’s the kind of transit that you look at with decades in mind, not just the day, week or month it happens in
It’s the kind of event that astrologers pay attention to becuase it always acts like a red flag, telling us to pay attention to the power dynamics in play, the difficulties faced by entire populations, illness, and downturns.
Challenging ♄/♇ aspects (like a conjunction) tend to intensify themes that have to do w restraint, repression and the inadequacy of our financial and overarching systems
Of these times, Rick Tarnas writes that they have a “pervasive quality of contraction ... An atmosphere of gravity and tension” in Cosmos and Psyche. He also notes that past conjunctions of ♄/♇ coincided w the bubonic plague (1348-51)and the identification of AIDS (1991-84)
They also coincide w wars and conflicts that have a long-lasting impact on global relations. The early eighties (the last conjunction of ♄/♇) was the escalation of the Cold War
A conjunction is the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. This moment is the beginning of a new ♄/♇ cycle. The outcome of it is long-lasting in its impact, revealing much deeper cultural shifts that are and will be taking place.
This isn’t meant to frighten anyone, but to say that through an astrological lens, this moment, this pandemic is a significant aspect of a larger process we must and are going through. It’s not the only part of it, but the outcome of it will make its mark.
Saturn represents the structures we live in, restriction & the bounds we can’t transgress. Saturn tells us no. Cuts us off. Is suffering. Denial. Deprivation. Demands we mature thru harrowing experiences. Saturn crystallizes fear. As keeper of time, speaks to the finality of life
Pluto is the deity of the underworld, death and buried treasure. The “underworld” has its own rules. Corruption & abuse fester here. Hidden reserves and sources of power also live here. Long-lasting transformations take place when we have to venture into and out of Pluto’s palace
Pluto tends to amplify, deepen our awareness of, and pronounce whatever it touches. This year its Saturn and Jupiter. Jupiter and Pluto are currently in an exact conjunction, one of three, happening on the same degree as the ♄/♇ conjunction earlier this year.
Last time Jupiter/Pluto made a conjunction in Cap was in 2008. Jupiter in Cap is in its fall. The usually good natured, bounty-bringer is now deficient in funds and celebration. Making 3 conjunctions to Pluto in 2020, the themes of greed, over-inflation & consequences run deep.
Jupiter/Pluto will always ask us to examine the core beliefs we adhere to and if they are able to withstand the toughest of times. In Capricorn, we know that the limitations we face mean that we have to find new ways to outgrow ancient scarcity mindsets.
There are enough resources for all. There is no need for any one person or family to hoard. Yet the world we live in celebrates this distortion. Uplifts greed. Denounces equality.
When we go through times that not only bring up the collective shadow and collective fear but are collectively difficult, derailing, and traumatic, we have to consciously resist the urge to be dualistic. We need nuance, complexity, and great care to get through.
The changes we are going through are long in their process and long-lasting in their impact. We serve them by helping ourselves sort through our fears and feelings of inadequacy. We reclaim our projections from the “other” and we learn to deal w internal conflicts like adults.
We can move towards wanting to be present instead of dominant. We can embrace the inevitability of death as a way to fully live life. We can exchange status for sincerity & rugged individualism for interconnectedness.
Our lives can be in service to the whole as a way of honoring and expressing self freely.
