General thought on reporting: it would be better for journalism if we recognized when another outlet broke a story. Some outlets are better at this than others, @TorontoStar is particularly good at recognizing even competing journalism & confirming with thier own sources.
When we say "reports" or "leaks" (assumption: leaks and whistle blowers can be different), or worse X has learned, or sources tell X without mentioning they're telling the reporter that bc they've called to confirm another outlet's report. Not ideal journalism.
I also wanted to put this out on a day when we weren't breaking something big so it doesn't look like snarky commentary. It's not directed at anyone or any org. Just a thought on how I think we can do better as media organizations.
