One of the biggest problems left wing leaders face is that they're generally naive about power. The 'unity' cries from neoliberals are a cynical ploy. It's never called out or treated as such.
You can't win a democratic civil war by pretending it's not happening. Neoliberals win with technocratic maneuvering, using the levers of power. The left wins by harnessing and leveraging the power of movements and giant numbers of people. You can't sacrifice your biggest weapon.
Congress has a 22% approval rating because the public knows they largely represent corporate interests over people. Why would the left feel the need to 'unify' with universally despised corporate tools? If you win as an outsider your power is derived from that, leverage it!
Institutional power overrides insurgent left wing leaders and waters down their agenda. This is a fact. The way around that is to change the game to direct action. That, we win. But it's a lot harder to do that when the left wing leaders willingly capitulate & avoid that game!
Bottom line, nobody our friend. Bernie himself even says we have to hold him accountable. Not only do we need to get in the streets but we have to do it with a number of *crystal clear and simple* policy demands. And not leave the streets until our demands are met. Period.
(obviously not during a fucking pandemic. But you get the point)
