As someone who was raised by a single mother and a grandmother, who worked together as a unit (along with wider family/community) to raise us, it's so interesting watching discussions that pathologise Black women who refuse partnership as "failed mothers"
It's fascinating as the possibilities of mothering are quite literally curtailed under the regime of the (white patriarchal) nuclear family. A project that prioritises capital over the expansiveness of family, and one that seeks to disrupt affective bonds within Black communities
