One last thing: I know that the Bill of Rights can be an obstacle to good things the government is trying to do (like respond to a pandemic). It is possible that once a century or so one situation arises (like a deadly virus) for which a totalitarian state would serve us better.

But then you have to live under a totalitarian state for the OTHER 99 years. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others.
