Now that Mahabharata is gradually becoming a craze in today's youth and has also gained some sponsors like Amul etc.

It is high time the truth is spoken.

In this thread I will try to bust some popular myths related to this Great Epic which are shown in TV Serials.

#Mahabharata
Here is the first one-
In today's episode, it was shown that कर्ण (राधेय) was not given permission by his father अदिरथ for गुरुकुल शिक्षा because of his जाति.

Let's see what the scriptures actually say.

Mahabharata (BORI-Critical Edition) - आदिपर्व-सम्भवपर्व, अध्याय-122, श्लोक-46-47
"Other princes also came to Drona, supreme among Brahmanas, to learn the use of arms-the Vrishnis,
the Andhakas, kings from many countries and Radheya, the son of the Suta. They made Drona their preceptor."

Translated by Shri @bibekdebroy.
Another one.

It was shown that Kauravas tried many times to kill Bheem.
One such example was poisoning Bheem's kheer, but they missed one thing and that was-

"Then Duryodhana, Karna and Subala’s son Shakuni tried many other means to kill the Pandavas."

Translated by Shri @bibekdebroy.
So what led the scriptwriters to deliberately keep Karna out of this?
To present him contrary to what he actually was.

It will become obvious in upcoming episodes.

Attaching Gitapress's excerpts:

Pic-1: Karna along with others came to Drona for education.

Pic-2: Karnas along with Kauravas tried to kill Pandavas multiple times.
SECOND ONE:
It was shown that when Karna came to Drona for admission, Drona refused.
But that wasn't what exactly happened in the Mahabharat.
In Mahabharat, Karna was accepted, he learned along with the other Kauravas and Pandavas.
Karna was always envious of Arjuna, while Arjuna kept excelling in every field of warfare.

"The Suta's son was envious of Partha and always competed with him. With Duryodhana’s support, he showed his contempt for the Pandavas."

MBH(CE)-आदिपर्व-सम्भवपर्व, अध्याय-122, श्लोक-47
Arjuna was special not because of his 'privileges' but because of his absolute devotion. He achieved the title of ATIRATHA.

Maharathi- who can take on 10000 warriors at once.
Atirathi- who can take on 60000 warriors at once.
"Arjuna was special, not just in his knowledge of weapons, but also in his devotion to his preceptor, though the instructions
were the same for everyone. Alone among all the princes, Arjuna became an ATIRATHA"

MBH(CE)-आदिपर्व-सम्भवपर्व, अध्याय-122, श्लोक-47
The best is yet to come.

Keep watching #Mahabharat.
Today the Drupad episode was telecast on the show.

Before Kauravas left for Drupad, Arjuna told Drona:

"Will will strike after the Kauravas because we have a firm belief that they will not succeed in capturing Drupad."
KMG-MBH-Adi Parva, Sambhav Parva-Section CXL.
The scriptwriters of the TV Show did mercy on Karna by not showing exactly how miserably Karna had fought.

Even Angraj Karna's Kawach and Kundal could not save his Anga from Drupad's arrows and pierced his body.

The mighty Karna ran away from the battlefield.
"Careering over the field of battle like a fiery wheel, King Drupada with his arrows smote Duryodhana and Vikarna and even the mighty Karna and many other heroic princes and numberless warriors."
KMG-MBH-Adi Parva-Sambhav Parva-Section-CXL.
Do you know how Arjuna had performed in the war?

"They who observed the illustrious Arjuna at that time could not mark any interval between his fixing the arrows on the bowstring and letting them off."

KMG-MBH-Adi Parva-Sambhav Parva-Section-CXL.
Arjuna did not have any Kawach or Kundal to protect him.

He was shot with 100 arrows by Satyajit but he did not give up.

He stood up again and defeated Satyajit right there.
"Arjuna, thus assailed in battle by the Panchala warrior, forgave not his foe. Eager to slay him at once, he pierced with a number of arrows. Then Satyajit, finding his bows repeatedly cut in twain and his horses slain, desisted from the fight."

KMG-MBH-Adi Parva-Sambhav Parva.
"Then Arjuna, that foremost of warriors, crowned with success, began to fight furiously and quickly cutting his enemy's (Drupad's) bow in twain as also his Flagstaff which he caused to fall down. At the sight of this, the Panchala troops ran away in all directions."
Thus Arjuna single-handedly defeated Drupad.
Today it was shown that Karna refused to take part in Lakshagrih conspiracy, but do you know what had actually happend?

See for your self.
"Then the son of Suvala (Sakuni), king Duryodhana, Duhsasana and Karna, in consultation with one another, formed an evil conspiracy. With the sanction of Dhritarashtra, the king of the Kurus, they resolved to burn to death Kunti and her sons."
KMG-Sambhav Parv-Jatugrih Parva.
Karna was among the board members of the Lakshagrih conspiracy team.
Today's Swayamvar episode was one of the biggest blunders.

1. There was no challenge to LIFT the Bow but to STRING it and HIT the target.

2. Karna COULD NOT string the bow.

3. Krishna DID NOT hint Draupadi to REJECT Karna

4. Draupadi DID NOT say that she will not marry a Suta
"But the bow was so strong that with all their strength, they could not STRING it."
Adiparva,Swayamvar Parva,Section 178-BORI
Karna FAILED to string the bow.

Pic-3: Mahabharatataparyanirnay- Oldest commentary on Mahabharat by Sri Madhavacharya.

Pic-4: The episode of Draupadi rejecting Karna was a later interpolation.
"taking up the five arrows he shot the mark and caused it to fall down on the ground... And the gods showered celestial
flowers on the head of Partha the slayer of foes."
Today they showed that Karna withdrew from battle in the Draupadi Swayamvar out of RESPECT for the Brahmin (disguised Arjuna).

Do you really want to know what had happened?
Pic-1: Arjuna STUNNED Radheya with his arrows.

Pic-2: Arjuna challenges Karna again and hearing this, Karna withdraws from battle as he thought that the "Bhramin's strength was INVINCIBLE."
Attaching Gitapress excerpts:
Pic-1: Arjuna STUNNED Karna.

Pic-2: Arjuna CHALLENGES Karna again.

Pic-3: Karna WITHDRAWS.
In today's episode of Mahabharat, it was shown that Draupadi insulted Duryodhana along with his Father when the former was examining the Sabha of Pandavas and fell into the water.
According to the episode Draupadi said, "अन्धे का पुत्र अन्धा"
(Son is as blind as the Father).

But in the scripture which the show claims to be based on i.e BORI's Mahabharat (CE) it is clearly mentioned that only Arjuna, Bhimsen, the Twins and some Dasas were present.
Draupadi is nowhere near Duryodhana, in fact, she doesn't even know if he had fallen into the illusion or not.

Later the episode shows that Duryodhana is enraged on Draupadi and asks Shakuni for revenge and he says, 'Her time will also come.'
Meaning, the humiliation that Draupadi will face in Dyut-Parva has been justified already as she had insulted Duryodhana and he will just take revenge.

Duryodhana has even promised to avenge Karna as well because Draupadi had also 'insulted' him by calling him a Sutputra.
So, whatever Karna will do/say to Draupadi, just remember that 'she deserved all this' and Karna has done nothing wrong. He just took his revenge (for the crimes Draupadi never committed).

That's all.
Why the hell this show is hell-bent on sensationalisation and monkey balancing everything that NEVER happened?

It would be better if the makers had called this show a fictional story and not something based on Mahabharat.
Attaching excerpts of Mahabharat.
BORI (CE).

Pic-1: Draupadi was not present when Duryodhana fell into the illusion.

Pic-2: Duryodhana was enraged NOT because of Draupadi but because of his jealousy towards the achievements of Pandavas he witnessed in Indraprastha.
Attaching Gitapress's excerpt as well.
(from: @SNChd)

Draupadi DID NOT insult Duryodhana.
Now comes today's episode of Dyut-Parva, though we are only halfway there.
FIRST: It was shown that Arjuna insulted Karna by calling him a Sutaputra.
In reality, it DID NOT happen in the Dyut-Krida.
There is no mention of such a conversation, neither in BORI nor in KMG nor in Gitapress.
PS. I know that not every conversation is necessarily present in scriptures and they show it according to the viewers BUT questioning this conversation was necessary because of the proclivity of the makers of this show towards Karna to show him as a BECHARA and Arjuna a CASTEIST.
SECOND: It was not KARNA who asked Yudhisthira to stake Draupadi but SHAKUNI.

I wonder what was going through the scriptwriter's mind while writing the plot?
They have done so many mistakes in the whole show. That too deliberately, I believe.

Day 2 of the Dyut-Parva episode is here now.

The most pathetic episode of the entire Mahabharat,
when the Sabha turned Napunsak.
Bhimsena was the only one among the Pandavas who had the courage to question Yudhishthira.

He said, "Droupadi did not deserve this... It is because of her that my anger descends on you. I will burn your hands. O Sahadeva! Bring the fire."
Pic-1: BORI
Pic-2: GitaPress
Vidura (not a Kshatriya) and Vikarna were the only ones who defended Draupadi in the entire Sabha apart from Bhimsen.

Guess what Karna (not a Kshatriya) was doing.
It was shown today in BRC's MBH that Karna said/did all of these to Draupadi because she had 'insulted' him by calling him a Sutaputra.

Reality is NO. HE DID IT BECAUSE HE WANTED TO.
Draupadi DID NOT insult him.
He said/did all this to her for the crimes she never committed.
It was not Duryodhana who confronted Vikarna for speaking up for Draupadi but KARNA himself.

It was not Duryodhana who ordered Dusshasana to disrobe Draupadi but KARNA himself.
KARNA said, "O Duhshasana! This Vikarna is only a child, though he speaks words of wisdom. Strip away the garments from the Pandavas and Droupadi.”

Pic-1,2: BORI
Pic-3,4: Gitapress
They did not show Karna's true face in this entire episode.

KARNA said, "Enter and serve us... Remember the eternal rule among slaves. Sexual acts with one’s masters are never censured."
Pic: BORI MBH (CE)
and this is what BHISHMA had to say to Draupadi.
"I cannot resolve this issue... Kunti’s son has voluntarily played with him."

Now coming to the Anudyut Parva which finally led the Pandavas to an exile for 13 years.
Duryodhana was not happy for Dhritrashtra returned Pandavas all the wealth that they had lost in Dyut.

Thus, "Duryodhana, KARNA, Shakuni got together and plotted against the Pandavas."

and how has BR Chopra portrayed KARNA?
That "the word 'Shadyantra' is not in his dictionary."
Many opposed this second Dyut including Drona, Vidura, Ashwatthama, Bhishma, Vikarna and even Gandhari.
Those who claim that KARNA did all this just for the sake of his 'friendship' for Duryodhana should not forget that Ashawatthama was also a friend of Duryodhana, Vikarna was Duryodhana's own brother and Gandhari, his own mother.
They at least tried to tell his friend/brother/son what is wrong and what is right, whereas KARNA did all this because he WANTED to and he WAS an EVIL who always carried hatred for Pandavas since he first came to Dronacharya for education.
and that was the sole reason KARNA sided with Duryodhana and not because he was discriminated against by the society in general and Pandavas in particular.
"From childhood, he formed a friendship with King Duryodhana. This is because of the enmity he always bore towards you and natural destiny."

These are not my words but of Maharshi Narada to Yudhisthira.
Gandhari, being a mother of Duryodhana, said this to Dhritarashtra.
"He will be the destroyer of the lineage. O Lord! Do not listen to the views of these wicked ones who are nothing but children."
Pandavas had gone a long way towards Indraprastha but being summoned by Dhritrashtra for another Dyut, Yudhishthira accepted.

Though he knew that 'this would bring ruin'.
They were defeated again and they prepared for their exile.
When Duryodhana and Duhshasana mocked Bhima from behind, Bhima turned towards them and said:
"I will make you remember all this when I pierce your heart in battle."

"I will kill the sons of Dhritarashtra in battle, it is only after this that I will go to the abode of peace."
Never had Arjuna taken Karna this seriously.
But today he had committed a grave offence.
Karna had humiliated Panchali which Arjuna could never forget.
"I will kill in battle this jealous Karna.

"The mountains of Himavat might be removed from where they are, the maker of the day lose his brightness, the moon his coldness, but this vow of mine will ever be cherished."
and then the Pandavas along with Panchali went towards the forest leaving Kunti in Vidura's abode.
