Today was the first day since June of last year when I didn& #39;t need to do something related to selling or buying a house, packing or unpacking the lives of 5 humans. Still plenty to do in the new place, but I had forgotten what a clear mind felt like and its glorious.
My personal favorite thing about having a new, bigger home is having my record player in my dining room, not sequestered in the basement. Playing so many records, many of which I& #39;ve never even listened to.
Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mining
A recent purchase. Blue clear vinyl! Probably my fav by the Oils. Love them so, so much. Seeing them back in 2001 after my mom passed helped me start to heal. Meant so much I individually thanked each of them at a later show.
Matthew Ryals - We Could Make the Ride Better for Everyone
Bought this because the cover is lovely. Rewarded with very pleasant and chill synths. A great reading record. Bleep bloop.
Lee Ranaldo - Between the Times and the Tides
Sonic Youth never clicked with me - honestly could barely recognize a song. But damn if I don’t love this record. First heard it on Spotify, then happened across a used copy.
Sleaford Mods - English Tapas
Not sure where I encountered these guys, but I love them. Spare beats and a working class English mix of disdain and contempt. A go-to option when I need to get motivated to kick ass.
Grace Jones - Nightclubbing
I adore Grace, and this is my favorite of hers. Grooves by Sly and Robbie pair perfectly with her voice and the innuendo of her lyrics. Covers are impeccably chosen. Not my fav album, but perhaps the one I’d buy first if I had to start over.
Picking up this thread.
OCS - Memory of a Cut Off Head
I’ve grown into a big fan of John Dwyer the past few years. Scored this recently from @redscroll. Much mellower than Thee Oh Sees, mostly acoustic guitar songs. But still a touch of unhinged menace, which I enjoy.
