Eijirou was excited. A bit nervous sure. But mostly excited!

His family had moved to a new home recently. And while he hadn’t been with them long, he loved them very much!!

At their last home, during the day, all of his family would go away somewhere. It was really scary! And he got so so sooo lonely. He couldn’t take it!!!

But then! This great thing happened! During the day he would go to a super fun place! And he would play and play and run and nap and play and eat snacks and playyy. He loved that place! The older dogs told him it was called daycare. And he made bunches of friends there!

But his best friend was this older (“Don’t call me old ya pup, I’m not grey yet.”) shaggy black dog. He was super strong and smart. And he didn’t play much, but he taught him lots of things! +

But! The thing Eijirou learned real fast, is that the shaggy dogs are the /best/ to snuggle with for naps. And! Shota (his old(er) friend) was by far the shaggiest!!

So if Eijirou learned anything, it was that finding the fluffiest dog to snuggle with for naps is TOP priority. TOP /TOP/ priority. +

Sure, it helped that Shota slept most of the time anyway, but he was fuzzy and cozy. So as Ei arrived at his new daycare, he immediately scoped out who was there.

Oo!! Other puppies!! Oh look at that big red dog what’s that! He smells nice! /no concentrate! Can play after nap partner is spotted!/

Eijirou snorffed around a bit, admittedly got a bit distracted and tumbled with a dachshund that he hadn’t caught the name of. Before he spotted him, +

/The/ poofiest fluffiest dog he’d ever seen in his entire life! /HE WOULD MAKE THE PERFECT PILLOW./ It was decided. Eijirou huffed, and puffed out his chest. Proud at his decision making.

Now!! Time to play!!

Three hours of rough and tumble and a snack time later. Eijirou was /exhausted/. He was so happyyy. He’d made two new friends! The dachshund from before, and a lab! Hanta and Denki! His tail hadn’t stopped wagging at awwllll…. Oof! +

Ei managed to untangle himself from his paws, he just fell asleep standing! Shaking his head to try and keep going, Ei looks around for his nap partner. Gotta find him before I pass out!

He snorfs and snuffles until he catches sight of the giant orange poof. He hadn’t even moved! Floofed out and sprawled in the corner. Eijirou happily trotted over on his wiggly jelly legs. Nap time!

The poof’s ear twitched but otherwise didn’t acknowledge Eijirou. That’s okay. Shota was grumpy too. He can handle grumpy! He’s a scrappy pup! That’s what his family says! So he sets about clambering up the side of the fluff mountain. +

Only for it to erupt in snarls and Ei suddenly found himself tumbling down the side. Oof! He managed to wiggle his way back upright. The poof was definitely awake now! And definitely angry! That’s okay though!

“Hi!” Ei yipped! Tail still going, honestly he was surprised it hadn’t fallen off. Even when he tugged on it, it stayed right there! Oof! /ugh he needs to remember not to try and stare at his tail while it wags, too tricky./

An amused huff caught his attention, but by the time he righted himself the angry poof was all teeth again.

“Hi!” Ei started over.

The large orange dog just growled, “Wha’d’ya want runt.” It didn’t really /sound/ like a question. But Eijirou figured he should answer anyway. Shota said it’s important to be polite!

“It’s nap time! And you’re the poofiest. So I came for a nap!” Eijirou yipped honestly.

All he got in response was a series of splutters. The orange mountain’s ears were going /crazy/, which was impressive since they must have a hard time moving through all that fur.

“I’m not a /pillow/ you mutt, now piss off.” Was the snarled response, before the poof walked in a circle and laid back down, floofy butt smooshed against the wall.

Ei just tilted his head, and feeling his ears flop to one side, felt compelled to do the same in the other direction. One large ruddy brown eye was trained on him, and Eijirou wasn’t sure exactly what to do.

“I know you’re not a pillow!” He finally decided on. “My name is Eijirou! And you’re my new nap partner! I’m new and my old nap partner was grumpy too! But he was nice-“ +

A high pitched whine escaped his throat, and Eijirou nearly fell over from the strength of his yawn, but he was determined to rest his face in that fluff.

Ah! He’ll sneak over! Getting down on his belly, Ei wiggled his way across the floor, eyes locked on crook between the poof’s legs where his body would fit /just perfect/.

Only the next thing he knew, there was a lot of teeth and big wet nose wayyy too close to his belly, and he was tumbling away from the much larger dog.

“The fuck I am!” The orange dog barked, and suddenly Ei was being gathered up in someone’s arms and being hoisted into the air.

“Katsuki no!” The human scolded. Katsuki! So that’s the older dogs name! Eijirou quickly wriggled his way out of the human arms, “wait-wai- Eijiour-“ before plopping onto the ground in a puppy puddle.

“Your name is Katsuki! That’s so cool! Your tongue was purple! That’s so awesome! You were so loud! I’m not as loud!” Eijirou yapped excitedly at Katsuki, butt wiggling in the air. “Hey hey! After nap time we should totally play!”

Katsuki just stared at him incredulous. Ears forward, mouth open and huffing. But Ei saw it! The poofy tail wagged! Before suddenly the orange dog walked back over to the wall, curled back up, and closed his eyes.

Oo! This was Ei’s chance! He got really, really low, belly smooshes on the ground, just like Shota taught him! And sneak his way as low and slow as he can. He’s just…just gotta get close enough to put his face in that orange fur. +

To rest amongst the poof. He froze, eyes wide, he saw one large red-brown eye on him again. And he held still, as still as could be. Before it closed again. Then sneak, sneak, sneak. Freeze. Wait. Wait. Sneak, sneak.

THERE! He could hear his tail smacking the floor behind him but he didn’t care! He curled as tight as he could and smooshed his face into the poof, before letting out a happy sigh. Laying on top of the hairy mountain would be a goal for another day. +

For now, he claims this as his victory. Eijirou hears an annoyed huff expel from the front of Katsuki, and the belly beneath him collapses in time with it. Before slowly growing again. Ahhh….peace.

Over the next few visits to daycare, Eijirou always spots out his nap buddy first. The big orange poof was usually in the same spot, the corner he’d claimed as his territory.

At first Katsuki’s reactions remained almost the same, growling, swearing, knocking Ei over. But Eijirou always got back up, always wiggled just a bit closer when the bigger dog wasn’t looking. And every naptime Ei got the satisfaction of resting on perfect fluff.

Eijirou noticed a difference though! After a bunch of days, Katsuki stopped barking! He still growls sometimes, but it’s more of just a grumble if he’s honest, and he doesn’t push Ei away anymore! +

And one time, while they were napping, another dog got a bit too close, and Katsuki actually snapped his teeth at them! Ei thought it was so cool that Katsuki was so tough, and told him so. +

Of course, that just earned more huffs and annoyed grumbles. But that giant curled tail wagged its floof back and forth so Ei knew he was happy. They were definitely friends now!

Ejirou eventually learned that Katsuki is called a Chow Chow (“Call me a mountain of puff again mutt and see what happens”). Ei’s never seen a Chow Chow before, and he wonders if they’re all grumpy. +

He decides to ask before he falls asleep one day and ends up tumbling down the mountain of poof once again.

Eijirou showed up to daycare only to find that his friends weren’t there! He sniffed everywhere but couldn’t find Hanta /or/ Denki! They’d never both been gone before! This was very distressing! +

Until of course he caught sight of a pile of orange fur smooshed into the corner of the room. Katsuki! His best friend will definitely play with him!

“Kaattssuukkiiiiiiiiiii-“ Ejirou gallops right into the giant dog and tumbles over. Earning himself a wheeze from the Chow.

“What the actual shit Ei?!” Katsuki snarled.

“Let’s play Katsuki!” Eijirou yipped excitedly.

Katsuki shifted to look at the wiggling pup for a moment before settling his muzzle back down on the floor, though now facing outward toward Eijirou. “No.”

Ei whines, but isn’t deterred, and begins using the surprise and retreat tactics he learned in his tumbles with Denki. Ei jumped up on the floof of Katsuki’s neck, then jumped back. +

Then he pounced and nipped at one of those little bear ears, and back again. The ear in question flickered wildly and earned a low growl from the Chow.

Oooooo. A reaction! Eijirou knows this will work! He gets into position, butt high and wiggling, before he pounces again! Missed! Dangit! Okay again! Nip! Haha! Eijirou chomped on that wiggly fluffy ear and Katsuki stood with a roar.

Orange mountain of fur erupting in rage, “I SAID NO SHITTY FUR AND NOW YOU’VE DONE IT!”

“Bet you can’t catch me!!” Eijirou yaps in delight, and goes sprinting across the room. He zooms and zigs and zags, puppy paws carrying him all around the open play area. He can’t believe it worked! And he’s going so fast too! +

Eijirou hears shouts of alarm in the background, and maybe that has to do with the furious Chow Chow behind him. At a glance back that almost makes him trip, Katsuki looks absolutely /terrifying/. +

Teeth fully bared, spit flying as he barks and snarls out furiously that Ei isn’t gunna get away. But all Eijirou can do is yip happily as he goes ducking under plastic play equipment that Katsuki either expertly dodges or decidedly plows straight through.

“You’re so strong Katsuki!!” Eijirou yaps, completely taken with the sight of his friend’s rampage, only to tangle his own feet. Oof! He hears the humans rushing in a panic but it goes ignored when suddenly the angry Chow is pinning Eijirou down and….not biting? +

A loud bark of victory echoes across the daycare as Katsuki stands over Ei in triumph. Tail wagging furiously, muzzle damp with spit, tongue lolling. +

And the air seems to give off a collective sigh of relief as Eijirou begins trying to wiggle his way out from under Katsuki’s massive paws.

But the chow doesn’t let him go, just leans down and nips at him. Then Ei’s getting a spontaneous bath and he wriggles harder, only to get a nip to the muzzle. Eijirou huffs and gives up. +

Satisfied, Katsuki plops his floofy butt down and snuffles around the scruffy pup’s face. Before nipping gently at the scarring up over Ei’s right eye, and a big purple tongue laves at a partially missing ear.

“Why’s yer ear fucked up runt?” Katsuki’s voice is calmer than Ei’s probably ever heard it, even before naps.

Ei rolls around fully onto his back, and presses his paws up into the lush mane of fur around Katsuki’s neck. Wriggling on his back causing his ears to flop side to side.

“Is it weird?” Eijirou asks. Nobody’s really talked about what he looks like before, so he’s a bit curious!

Katsuki just huffs, “Looks like a cat used it as a chew toy.”

“Hmm,” Ei thinks, “I don’t really remember, I was a pup when it happened.”

“Yer still a pup ya dumb furred mutt.” Katsuki grumbles out, but he sounds amused.

“Well!” Eijirou huffs, then yips, “A human did it I think!”

If a dog could look appalled, that’s what Eijirou would describe Katsuki as looking as at that second. Ears straight forward at attention, then immediately back, hackles high, tail frozen, and lips curled back just to show a hint of teeth.

And in another blink Eijirou’s whole face is wet and he’s getting a tongue bath with special care being taken of his ears, Katsuki growling all the while about what Ei isn’t really sure. It’s really nice! +

Until he gets bored, and manages to wiggle away before enticing Katsuki into another round of chase.

Of course, Eijirou has /other/ friends. So the next day when Denki and Hanta are back, Ei demands that Katsuki play with them. The grumpy puff declines of course. But through Ei’s super sneaky technique (“Hey I taught you that!”), +

he and the other pups manage to rangle Katsuki into tumbling around the room with them. Ignoring the cooing humans, the three pups pounce around the Chow in glee as they try and catch his madly wagging curled tail. +

Katsuki is snarling the whole time, but never once lays more than a gentle nip on any of them. And that’s how Katsuki somehow ends up adopting a three-month-old yellow lab, an eight-month-old dachshund, and a four-month-old whatever the shit Eijirou is.

While Katsuki doesn’t join the pups for play every day, the orange dog’s demeanor has definitely changed. At some point Katsuki had stopped growling at Eijirou all-together. And when Ei went to join the Chow for nap time, +

the most he ever got are grumbles (“What took you so long dumb fur, I’m tired.”). And now Eijirou frequently sleeps sprawled across the top of the mountain of orange fluff. Katsuki may play with the other pups from time to time, but only /Ei/ gets to cuddle.

Eijirou is enjoying another day at daycare! There are a few new dogs today, and he’s doing his best to get them to play with him and the other pups! One of the new dogs, a big brown one, keeps pinning him every time he catches Ei. +

If only he were a bit faster! But if he’s gunna get any stronger he needs to play with the big dogs too! And the big brown one, chuckles every time he pins Ei, and he wiggles and wiggles yipping and yapping until he gets loose.

At first it was really fun! Eijirou really likes tussling. But then the big dog started nipping at him, and he’s pretty tough! Tough and scrappy! +

But that last one on his nose hurt a bit, and Ei didn’t really like that. He was getting tired anyway, maybe he’ll go play with Katsuki until naptime?

Well that was his plan, but before he could get to the orange mountain in the corner, he got pounced on again from behind. Large teeth were on his right ear and Ei couldn’t hold in the pained yelp that escaped his throat. That hurt really bad!!

As a whimper bubbled from between Ei’s puppy teeth, soft belly exposed as he rolled on his back, little tail trembling between his legs, he could hear a rapidly approaching dismayed human. +

But before they could rescue him from the suddenly very scary big dog, there’s a giant orange whirlwind of snarling teeth, black tongue and way, way too much fur.

Katsuki is standing right over Eijirou, who’s managed to roll back over onto his belly, suddenly surrounded by the scent of his best friend. +

Ei can’t see much from where he is, peaking out from under the explosion of orange mane, but he can hear everything as Katsuki lays into the other dog verbally.

Barking and snarling madly, “YOU COME NEAR HIM AGAIN MUD STAIN AND I’LL RIP OUT YOUR THROAT AND YOUR HUMANS WILL COLLECT YOU LOOKING LIKE A PILE OF WET CAT FOOD-“ +

Katsuki shakes with fury as the humans manage to drag away the now quivering brown dog. Shota had said it was good to have big friends, and he was right!

Eijirou yipped up at Katsuki, and once the other dog was out of sight, the orange poof promptly lays down at smothers the still shaking Ei in his fluff. Before shuffling back just enough for Ei’s head to pop out of the orange mane. +

Katsuki begins to clean the ‘little mutt,’ all the while grumbling chastisement. Ei just lays there covered in poof and enjoys the smothering affection of his new best friend, before quickly falling asleep.
