So while in the middle of this lockdown and to help take my mind off all the insanity I've decided to take this opportunity to better myself and watch the entire Marvel movie series!

While I've seen the odd film I've never really paid them much attention to them.
I've been probably more of a DC man and comic wise was always a Batman man.
The Marvel movies seemed to be very heavily CGI based so I'm curious to see what's behind the action.

Watching them in chronological order so first up was The Capt!
Captain America - The First Avenger

Actually not a bad little film. Ticks most of the boxes. The main baddie is really pretty useless and kinda a bit of a boring character but the film works when Capt is on screen.

Could have done with a bit more humor mind.

6.5 outta 10
Tomorrow I believe it's Captain Marvel's turn.

I know we're switching genders here but other then that I know nothing about this film other then I know the reviews weren't great.

Hoping for a surprise...
No surprise there. That was a pretty average to poor film. The humor was as flat as anything and the film had a going thru the motions feel about it from start to finish.

Thought Larson was incredibly wooden, when she was running she looked like someone acting running.
Definitely a level or two below Captain America with no spark in it at all.

The bad guys were just a big pile of zzzzzz

Captain Marvel 3.5 out of 10.
Iron Man - saw this a few years ago when it was first out, liked it then but on second watching it's better then I remember it.

Not Robert DJr greatest fan but he really is great in this and he brings great energy and charisma to the role.

Action is good without being OTT
And while we all know that Tony Stark is just a poor mans Bruce Wayne it doesn't take anything away from the film.

The movie positively zips along and has aged very well and you are really rooting for Stark by the end.

Easily the best of the three so far.

8 outta 10!
Iron Man 2

You gotta ask what's the point of this film??

Some nice bits at the start when it's more Tony then Iron Man but other then that it's kinda a whole pile of nothing.

Plot essentially the same as Iron Man 1 - bad allies in cheaper suits try to beat up Tony.
But its really quite a poor plot and it's really only the charmisa as Downey Jr in the title role that drags it above very poor.

It passes the time but that's really it.
Big let down from the first in that it's really just a copy.

4 out of 10.
Thor

A film of two parts, well actually maybe three.
The first part in Thor's homework is kinda CGI rubbish. The usual plot about ancient enemies being defeated but not fully defeated alongside a friend who is actually a foe!
Boring back story going on.
And have to use this point as an opportunity to say that people in the Marvel world are really awful at choosing friends, like literally every friend ends up turning against one another. Its getting old really fast!
Anyways back to Thor. When he gets to earth there's a bit of this film that is actually sort of fun. Thor,in the fish out of water role, provides a few laughs but probably not enough but still this part of the movie is about the best.
But it doesn't last and reverts to type.
The final part of Thor is pretty crappy to be honest. Zero tension and really you end up clock watching as you wait for the end to come.
Thor naturally wins and discovers that his brother afterall was a bit of a bit.
Thor has some fun parts but honestly not enough of them.
A pretty flat 5 out of 10. Barely.
The Avengers

Man this one was a let down, was really expecting more from it.

I think Marvel's big issue is that the baddies (so far) are just all so totally forgettable. You don't fear them at all and it makes them very dull.
There is nothing new or fresh about wiping out wave after wave of useless minions and yet that was all that the latter half of this movie was. It makes for boring tv when the first time the Avengers assemble should be something exciting.

The first part of the movie follows
Standard plot of new team forming, storming, norming and eventually performing.
Have to say I find the whole nick fury character a strange one. Like what grown man wears a long black leather coat? You get that shit outta your system in your late teens.
The film also suffers from dragon syndrome coming from Game of Thrones. When you introduce something as powerful as a dragon then the rest doesn't matter, who ever has the dragons will win. Feel a bit like this with the Avengers for the arrow guy and scarlett.
Like compared to a God or a man in a power suit what do they have?

Anyways plot is pretty non existent here (always with the dimensions just like Star Trek and time travel) and the spark really isn't there.

4.5 out of 10.

Pretty awful.
Iron Man 3

Big, big let down. Starts off interestingly enough with Tony questioning his place in life and then when his suit gets taken away from him we get to see what he's like without his suit.

Turns out he's pretty much the same.
One point a practically unarmed Stark takes out a legion of trained bodyguards, like it's just senseless.

There's a ridiculous plot behind it all involving an actor pretending to be some global terrorist and that guy from Neighbors make an appearance as run of the mill villian.
From that it builds towards a CGI fest that involves automatic Iron Man suits fighting other bad guys before all blowing up.

Oh and the love interest is also now a super hero.

This is just tripe, undiluted crap.
Awful.

Thor Dark World

I dont even want to talk about this film.

2 out of 10
And note to Marvel - can we please stop with the "plot twist" of friends being enemies???

Jesus every film!!

Someone in the Marvel industry must get a bonus based royalties per double cross thing.
