Now & in the weeks/months ahead, @spotify will continue to collect revenue from songs made by musicians, many who are home from cancelled tours, unable to work service & other jobs. Increasing pay for streams now will provide direct income to musicians who desperately need it!
@Spotify launched a #COVID19 relief project 3/27, asking artists & public to donate money to Spotify & theyâll match up to $10m for @MusiCares @PRSFoundation @UnisonFund & @HelpMusiciansUK. But then musicians have to apply for help from these orgs to receive aid!

The music industry has changed over the past decade from record sales to streaming. Thatâs fine. Change can be good. But itâs only good when it supports the people who are the reason the industry continues to exist at all. #paymusicians @Spotify
Well now youâre at the top, @spotify. You rule the streaming world. Arguably the whole music industry. Streaming revenue has increased so you can afford $2.77m/month in new NYC offices, but not ensure living wages for musicians, many donât know how theyâll eat next month?
#COVID19 has & will continue to have horrific & immeasurable fallout. But it also provides us an opportunity to look at the ways weâve been doing business & do better. Nowâs your chance to step up & be heroic @spotify â in this moment & beyond.
@Spotify I challenge you to come up with a new sliding scale payment structure for artists (higher pay for less plays), institute it immediately for #COVID19 artist relief & keep it in place going forward. #paymusicians
You say youâve got $10m lying around to match funds for #COVID19 artist relief @Spotify. Why not just put that into increased pay for streams & #paymusicians directly?
