Now & in the weeks/months ahead, @spotify will continue to collect revenue from songs made by musicians, many who are home from cancelled tours, unable to work service & other jobs. Increasing pay for streams now will provide direct income to musicians who desperately need it!

Music has inherent value. Music is medicine; it is what’s getting people through the most trying time we’ve experienced in generations. @Spotify #paymusicians

Increased shared @Spotify playlists, @zoom_us live DJ sets, virtual dance parties & workout classes feature songs musicians & producers made. While Spotify continues to collect revenue & work comfortably from home, many musicians don’t know how they’ll pay rent or eat.

@Spotify launched a #COVID19 relief project 3/27, asking artists & public to donate money to Spotify & they’ll match up to $10m for @MusiCares @PRSFoundation @UnisonFund & @HelpMusiciansUK. But then musicians have to apply for help from these orgs to receive aid!

That doesn’t add up, @Spotify. Why don’t you just INCREASE INDIVIDUAL STREAMING REVENUE & SEND MONEY DIRECTLY TO ARTISTS!

The music industry has changed over the past decade from record sales to streaming. That’s fine. Change can be good. But it’s only good when it supports the people who are the reason the industry continues to exist at all. #paymusicians @Spotify

Well now you’re at the top, @spotify. You rule the streaming world. Arguably the whole music industry. Streaming revenue has increased so you can afford $2.77m/month in new NYC offices, but not ensure living wages for musicians, many don’t know how they’ll eat next month?

#COVID19 has & will continue to have horrific & immeasurable fallout. But it also provides us an opportunity to look at the ways we’ve been doing business & do better. Now’s your chance to step up & be heroic @spotify — in this moment & beyond.

@Spotify I challenge you to come up with a new sliding scale payment structure for artists (higher pay for less plays), institute it immediately for #COVID19 artist relief & keep it in place going forward. #paymusicians
