@michelle_eliot @bctoday The advice she just gave about recently arrived travellers not being contagious if they are not sick is incorrect: many asymptomatic cases are contagious. (Not to mention they are breaking Quarantine Act). Please challenge your guest on that.
@michelle_eliot @bctoday Thank you for asking my question. I still don't think her response was actually correct, I understand that in a lot of places (e.g. WA state, NYC) they are recognizing that the virus was in the community for weeks prior to being recognized...
@michelle_eliot @bctoday ... and being spread by people either with mild symptoms or who were asymptomatic. If I have time I will find the scientific refs and pass them on to you. Thanks for your coverage!
Thank you for asking my question the other day, to the Vancouver Health doctor. She seemed not worried by the fact that people who were under quarantine were out and about, and said not to worry because "if they are not sick, they can't spread it" or something to that effect. /1
This is really not correct and there is lots of *science* to that effect (yes, what we know is changing daily - but we have known about asymptomatic spread for quite some time). As promised, some credible refs:

And this too - there is LOTS more: https://www.propublica.org/article/what-we-need-to-understand-about-asymptomatic-carriers-if-were-going-to-beat-coronavirus
Since she said that on your show the other day, perhaps you could follow up with something about this?
Thank you! (May send you a scientific pub too if I find one).

@michelle_eliot Hi- again, more re: how Vancouver dr on @bctoday last week (this thread) was wrong re: asymptomatic spread/quarantine. New federal government guidelines (today) to PREVENT asymptomatic spread- also BC to enforce quarantine more now. Thanks! https://twitter.com/CBCAlerts/status/1247206532535799812
