I'm going to share some favourite images from my visit to Costa Rica over the next few days, because if theres anything we need right now, it's surely this Motmot and his mates.
Todays Costa Rica shots: this male Green Honeycreeper.
Next up then from my Costa Rica archives: these three beautiful Damselflies. There are at least 268 species of Odonata (that's damselflies and dragonflies) in CR, and new species are found all the time. The rainforests are buzzing.
So we're getting into the Hummingbirds. The Coppery Headed Emerald Hummingbird is only found in Costa rica. I camped at the edge of the forest for three days to photograph these little ones. They were so much fun to hang out with!
To really capture Hummingbirds in all their glory there's a need to use camera flash. It's something I avoid more generally and used minimally, but most often they didnt mind. These two though, did look a bit like they'd been papped.
Three more Hummingbirds to come today, before we move onto Sloths. This Green Crowned Brilliant. Oh my.
This Male Purple Throated Mountaingem. Glam rock isnt dead.
This is the Female Purple Throated Mountaingem. Very different to the male, and some of my favourite markings of the Costa Rican Hummingbirds.
I *thin* this little chonk could be a stripe Throated Hermit, but I'm not sure! There are over 50 species in Costa Rica, with variations between male and female and some endemic only to CR. That's a lot to remember!
