THREAD:
the whole message of SW is that love is the most powerful, healing, strengthening force for GOOD in the universe.
so tell me how it makes sense for that force, represented by the dyad uniting, to heal & strengthen Palpz, the biggest source of EVIL in the universe? (1/9)

what a horrible, dark, cynical message to send. that you can do the right thing, turn towards the light, choose love, choose the good, and all it will do is strengthen the evil in the world & be used to divide & destroy you. IN A KIDS MOVIE. JJerrio rlly said FUCK THEM KIDS (2/9)
it would& #39;ve been a COMPLETELY different story if being healed by such powerful love had a profound, redeeming effect on Palpz. like taking the thorn out of the lion& #39;s paw.
imagine this: the light-side power of the dyad is too much for Palpz, it strips away all the dark... (3/9)

but bc he& #39;s been corrupted by evil for so long, what& #39;s left is not enough to keep him alive. but what IS left is a tiny flicker of light (no one is born evil) that causes Palpz to express a glimmer of remorse, in the face of the dyad& #39;s healing love, before he dies. (4/9)
HOW POWERFUL WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL, HOPEFUL MESSAGE!
that love not only has the power to strip away darkness & evil, but to find the good that still remains beneath & coax it into the light for us to witness & learn from.
but that& #39;s not what we got. (5/9)

given this, the fact that Rey does then defeat Palpz is rendered confusing.
it becomes about individualism, one single person & their inner strength, bolstered by calling on the "ancestors" for a pep talk. rather than seeing two people, Ben & Rey, unite to defeat evil... (6/9)

which would have been a far more powerful message, and a more applicable one for the real world & for the kids who are looking towards a pretty bleak future: that you cannot do it alone, that community, unity & supporting one another through love is what will overcome evil. (7/9)
i just cannot fathom what the creators think the message of this film is??? it doesn& #39;t just matter that the Big Bad is defeated - of COURSE it& #39;s defeated, it& #39;s the final film, that& #39;s a given. (8/9)
what truly matters is HOW evil is defeated, what MESSAGE that sends & at what COST. these 3 things are what JJerrio failed at.
the HOW is confusing at best & damaging at worst.
the MESSAGE is dark, cynical & devoid of hope.
neither the how nor the message justifies the COST.
