With no Power Rangers comics, I decided to post one of my favorite panels a day from each issue of my run and give a little commentary. Here we go:
GO GO POWER RANGERS #1: Trini has not only become maybe my favorite character to write because of her amazing empathy toward her fellow Rangers, but... she also gives me the opportunity to do "Oxford Comma" writing jokes.
GO GO POWER RANGERS #2: The idea was: What if, when Kim meets the Ranger Teens for the first time, it's not friendly but hostile? Truth is, I don't think I actually knew what "Salad Girl" was referencing when I wrote this line so I had to trust my future self to figure it out.
GO GO POWER RANGERS #3: A theme I kept coming back to in GoGo is "Forgotten Friends". I loved the idea that Billy & Skull could have been childhood buddies who drifted apart due to circumstance. And I love how Dan drew the Zombie Space Pirates as figments of their imagination.
GGPR #4: So I scripted this as a 4 panel transformation, ending with the Megazord reveal in the middle. Dan took that, and made it SOOOOO much better. From this point, I swore I'd give my artists as many morphin sequences and transformations as possible just to see what they do.
GGPR #5: This is one of those lines you probably shouldn't write, and then you do, but you say, "They're never gonna let me keep it." And then somehow, they do. I loved digging into Rita's past and hope to get to do it again in the future.
GGPR #6: I don’t think Squatt is evil. I think he was raised by despicable people and is simply looking for validation and attention, which... means being evil. And I’ll take Baby Squatt over Baby Yoda any day.
GGPR #7: I loved that GoGo gave us the space to show the little moments in the Ranger's lives, like... Kim and Trini getting their hair done. And even better, Dan remembered to keep the pink and yellow streaks in their hair for a few issues after. Sadly, I'd completely forgotten.
GGPR #8: Putty Matt came from the question: "How can we make high school feel just as dangerous for the Rangers as when they’re fighting monsters?" Plus, it’s hard to go wrong with a “fight yourself” bad guy and Dan just took the transformation imagery to another level.
GGPR #9: This is one of my favorite morphin sequences. It was originally a completely different full page idea that I ended up having to scrap because I didn't give myself enough pages for the Ranger Slayer fight. This happens to me a lot, but sometimes good things come from it.
GGPR #10: Alpha doesn’t get more bad ass than that.
GGPR #11: Hey Dan, is there anyway we can make the Gravezord a legitimate threat? I'd love if it we could have it do some actual damage to one of the Zords. Can we do that?

Dan:
GGPR #12: (Spoilers) This was created because I promised Dan that I'd somehow find a way to let him draw all the iconic moments of the Green Ranger in a book that didn't feature the Green Ranger. It was designed as a mosaic, not Tommy remembering everything from Shattered Grid.
GGPR #13: I know this is technically TWO PANELS, but... my favorite thing to try and do in the comics is to jab some of the ridiculous stuff from the show (like everyone wearing the same color everyday) and hopefully use them for an emotional payoff... like in this scene.
GGPR #14: From the beginning, I made a checklist of things I wanted to find a way to put into the series. Hip Hop Kido was always at the top of that list. It almost showed up in three earlier issues, but this spot seemed perfect. Happy Easter!
