I got an email from one of my students who is really struggling with the pandemic--lost their job and routine, dealing with anxiety, just really deep in this, more so than anyone I&
#39;ve heard from as yet. And I&
#39;m helping the best I can, but man. I just don&
#39;t know sometimes.
I&
#39;ve seen a couple of academic folks on here point out that things like campus mental health services are almost always a joke, and sometimes counter-productive, even under normal circumstances. What are we even doing? I don&
#39;t know.
If you&
#39;re a professor and you&
#39;re mostly worried about your students cheating on an online exam or "taking advantage" of this situation to slack off, maybe take a step or two back and think about the toll this is taking on people. Exams should be the least of our concerns.
